    3. Hi! The archives for our list are found here: http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl Simply type in kygreenu and you'll get a search page. You must then chose a year and in the field that says "query" type in the word or name you are looking for. Good luck to you! Sorry I didn't reply sooner. I'm working on too many things at once right now. My oldest cild is getting ready for college, my other three are keeping me hopping! We're starting planting in the gardens already. I'm also working on a list of WWI and WWII veterans' graves for Greenup. Laura McK (list administrator)

    1. [KyGreenup] John Loper, George W. Loper: Brothers?
    2. Randal W Cooper
    3. Dear Subscribers to the Greenup County, Kentucky Mailing List, John Loper married Martha Ayers on December 11, 1853 at Hawesville, Hancock County, Kentucky, according to FamilySearch. There were Lopers and Ayerses who were residents of Greenup County, Kentucky in the 1830s, as posted by researcher Byron Atkinson. I hope to determine whether John Loper, husband of Martha Ayers, was the same person as the John Loper who in later years was a coal miner in the mining community of Brashears, Hocking County, Ohio, who died in 1903 and is buried in Carbon Hill Cemetery, Ward Township, Hocking County, Ohio. The second item I hope to resolve is whether John Loper (died 1903) and George W. Loper (ca.1836-1889) were brothers. In the 1860 Census of Greenup County, Kentucky, page 733, George Loper was enumerated as 23 years old, born in Ohio. His wife Rebecca (Mitchell) was listed as 18 years old, born in Kentucky. Note: They were married on August 24, 1859 in Greenup County. In their home was my third-great grandfather William Cooper, age 35, born in Massachusetts. I do not know why William Cooper chose the George Loper household, in which to make his home in that time period. About 1865 or so, George W. Loper left Kentucky and moved to Vinton County, Ohio. From there, he moved to Athens County and Hocking County, Ohio. Apparently, he moved there to obtain employment as a coal miner. George W. Loper died May 15, 1889 and is buried in Carbon Hill Cemetery, Ward Township, Hocking County, Ohio. In 1903, John Loper was buried next to George W. Loper. If anyone can help, I would be more than happy to hear from you. Thank you! Sincerely, Randal W. Cooper

    1. [KyGreenup] Schoolhouse Hollow, Greenup Co Ky: Loper School Nearby?
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: LOPER, COOPER, BARNEY, MITCHELL, THAYER, TRUITT, COLEGROVE, NELSON, ALDRIDGE, More Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/1AB.2ACI/3649.2 Message Board Post: Loper School, Greenup County, Kentucky, might be found by noting Schoolhouse Hollow. Schoolhouse Hollow contains an intermittent watercourse that flows southward into the north bank of Schultz Creek. To locate Schoolhouse Hollow, begin at the intersection of Routes 784 and 546, about one-half mile east of the Lewis County border, in Greenup County. Proceed eastward on Route 784, which follows Schultz Creek on its north bank. There is a cemetery on the north side of Route 784, at the mouth of Negro Hollow. This cemetery is about one-eighth mile east of the intersection of Routes 784 and 546. Continue east. The next hollow is Polly Hollow. Sugarcamp Creek flows into Polly Hollow and then into Schultz Creek. The next hollow is Schoolhouse Hollow. The distance from the Lewis County border to the mouth of Schoolhouse Hollow is about one and three-fourths miles. Note: Brushy Iron Furnace (what is remaining of it) is four miles directly south of the mouth of Schoolhouse Hollow. Brushy Iron Furnace, built by Samuel Seaton, was originally named New Hampshire Furnace and is located on the north side of Brushy Creek Road, west of the community of Liberty/Lynn. There is a cemetery on the south side of Route 784, about a half-mile east of Schoolhouse Hollow, on the north bank of Schultz Creek. Thus, the cemetery is between Schultz Creek and Route 784. Another half-mile east is Rockhouse Hollow. About one and one-fourth miles further east is the center of the community of Letitia. This map information is derived from the map of Greenup County, Kentucky in ~Kentucky County Map Book~, compiled by C.J. Puetz, County Maps, Puetz Place, Lyndon Station, WI 53944, (608) 666-3331. Loper School might have been at or near the mouth of Schoolhouse Hollow. I do not know. As for the location of Loper Cemetery, it has an "address" of Letitia, Kentucky. Thus, Loper Cemetery could be either of the cemeteries on Route 784 and Schultz Creek west of Letitia Center. The cemeteries are not named on the map. They are indicated by the symbol of a dashed rectangle with a cross inside. Traveling west out of Letitia Center on Route 784, the first cemetery is about one and three-fourths miles away, on the south side of Route 784. The second cemetery is about one and three-fourths miles further west, on the north side of Route 784. I am researching the Lopers. Of particular interest are John Loper (died 1903) and George W. Loper (ca.1836-1889), who might have been brothers. I am searching for their parents. The John and George Loper I am referring to are buried next to each other in Carbon Hill Cemetery, Ward Township, Hocking County, Ohio. George W. Loper was a resident of Greenup County, Kentucky from at least 1859 to about 1865 or so. George W. Loper married Rebecca Mitchell on August 24, 1859 in Greenup County.

    1. [KyGreenup] William John Crossett, Married Sarah Ann Wade, 1877, Greenup County, Kentucky
    2. Randal W Cooper
    3. Dear Members of the Greenup County, Kentucky Mailing List, William J. Crosset(t) was enumerated in the 1850 Census of Greenup County, Kentucky. In the 1850 Census, William J. Crossett was recorded as one year old, born in Pennsylvania. His middle name was John. In later records, William Crossett was sometimes recorded as John Crossett. In the 1850 Census, William J. Crossett was listed as a member of William Cooper's household. William J. Crossett's parents (John L. Crossett and Mary McKee) were living "next door" to William Cooper. John L. Crossett and his wife Mary were living in the home of Mary's parents, John McKee, Sr. and Elizabeth Reed. Evelyn Syphers Jackson wrote that William J. Crossett married Sarah Ann Wade on March 7, 1877. My research has found that William J. Crossett moved to Alabama after the enumeration of the 1880 Census. I am searching for the reason why William J. Crossett was being kept in the home of my third-great grandfather William Cooper in 1850. Thank you for your help. Sincerely, Randal W. Cooper
