Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/1AB.2ACI/3655 Message Board Post: This Alice Howland I have down as a Sister to Benjamin Howland and her mother was Amy Harris who was married to Crocker Howland. Amy Later married a James L. Hyde Here is some Info I have gathered. Jerry L. Howland Mar 15 1763 - Benjamin Howland Marries Anna Crocker in West Barnstable Congregational Church Ref : Church Records Oct 22 1765 - Elisha Crocker b. 1750 " only son of David Crocker , Jr late of Barnstable " is places under guardianship of John Percival. Ref : Barnstable Co. Probate Records Oct 25 1765 - David Crocker , jr estate settlement names " daughter Anna Howland , wife of Benjamin Howland." Also names "only son" Elisha Crocker. This is the last known record of Benjamin and Anna Crocker, ref: Barnstable Co. Probate Records, April 1 1771 - Elisha Crocker and his guardian , John Percival , "Settle there Accounts." Elisha , age 21, removes to Berkshire County as did many Barnstable people before and after Elisha. Ref: Barnstable co. Records July 17 1771- Elisha Crocker buys land in Berkshire County first in Richmont then later in Lee. Ref: Berkshire Co. Register of Deeds 1 December 1801 - Crocker Howland " of Stockbridge" dies in Berkshire Co. , Mass . Stockbridge is immediately adjacent to Lee. His Probate records names wife Ama ( Also called Amy) ., his children Benjamin Howland and Anna. Also mentioned prominently is Elisha Crocker !!!!!!!! Ref: Berkshire Co. , Mass Probate Records. 14 Aug 1802 - Crocker Howlands Estate pays Elisha Crocker $20.00 ref: Berkshire Co. Probate Records 16 Aug 1802 - Elisha Crocker and his son, David are involved in $70.00 note with Crocker Howland's Estate and the adminstratrix Ama Howland. Ref: Berkshire Co. Probate Records. Note: It is important to remember that this same Elisha Crocker was the brother of Anna Crocker Howland, wife of Benjamin. Therefore it is probable that Elisha was Crocker Howland's uncle -- rather than just another Barnstable native who happens to show up on Crocker Howland's estate papers. Also keep in mind the children's names Benjamin and Anna same as Crockers Howland Parents as well ......... 2 Nov 1802 - Benjamin and Anna Howland placed under guardianship of Elisha Harris who is believed to be Ama (Harris) Howland's father . ref: Berkshire Co, Probate Records. 1 April 1805 - Widow Ama Howland Purchases two acres of land adjacent to the lands of Elisha Crocker. ( Ama Howland was Pregnant with Alice at the time of Crocker Howland's Death. She made a claim for nursing care " during my sickness in child bed" against the estate but it was denied.) Ref: United States Census 1820. Also oral family history that says " A Mr. Hyde brought Benjamin Howland down the river on a flatboat from New England." 13 Jan 1834 - Elisha Crocker born 1750 , in Barnstable dies in Lee Mass. 1. [KyGreenup] Quincy Post Office: Extended into Greenup County in the 1880s?
    2. Randal W Cooper
    3. Dear Members of the Greenup County, Kentucky Discussion Group, In the 1880s, could a resident of eastern Greenup County near Horse Hollow on Schultz Creek (near the Lewis County border) have had a post office address of Quincy, Kentucky? After some searching for my third-great grandfather William Cooper's residence in the early 1880s, it has occurred to me that even though his mailing address was Quincy, Kentucky, he quite possibly could have been living in Greenup County, not Lewis County. William Cooper did not own a house or any land after 1848. He made his home with various people as a boarder. Worded another way, my question is, How far did the Quincy post office area extend? I suppose that people went into the post office and picked up their mail, versus having mail delivered to their house by a mail carrier, as we do today. Does anyone have a similar situation in his research? Thank you for your help. Sincerely, Randal W. Cooper
