This may have happened in Russell, KY...or wherever the railroad yards were located then. my questions..... Anyone know where the railroad yards were then? Russell, KY or some other town nearby? How about the William (Riley?) BROWN that married Ellen/Ella FETTERS and who are buried together at Long Cemetery, Gray's Branch? Ella lived 1860-1934, and William 1841 or 1859-1934? We have several more of these Fetters-Brown intermarriages in our "tree," with a tradition of Native American (Indian) ancestry in almost all BROWN branches. Hey, Kathy... I saw these posts and was thinking more about it... I checked to see if the town of Walsenburg was in Huerfano, Colorado... Just as a reality check on the info. It is. So I searched that location and found Mary Merritt there with 5 kids (ages 12-26) three of which were born after 1880 and that I had been previously unaware of. It says she's had 9 kids with 7 living. Being that she is there as a widow in 1900 tends to make me think that it IS quite likely that her husband, John, died there as you were told. Why else would she be there at that time? If you have access to the 1900 census, you can find her in CO, Huerfano, 6th precinct, Walsenburg, Page 3B. If you don't have access, contact me and I'll get you the info. She's there again in 1910, in Walsenburg, ED 84, Page 14B. I also find several of her sons in subsequent years (1910-1930) in that location. I couldn't find Mary in either KY or CO in 1920. I also couldn't find the 1930 Greenup entry you mentioned. (I also checked Upshur, WV.) Can you give me more details on that so I can record the reference?
