Hi, This is a Reply to the Ancestry. com Family Trees issue .. Hope it explains better. Derre Reply Reply to Sender Recommend Message 2 in Discussion From: Christi Derre~ I too got that message and also got the one below from another group. This is from the Rootsweb page about what is going on. It does make it a little more clear as to what they are doing. "Ancestry is *not* charging for access to trees or selling trees: access will remain free from both the RootsWeb and Ancestry side as it has always been. "What Ancestry is offering for an extra charge is access to a special search engine to search the trees for you. Folks can still search the trees manually or browse the trees for free the same way they always have. "Think of it as a research assistant: you can hire someone to help you look for your ancestors, or you can research yourself for free. Hiring a human research assistant doesn't sell them the data being researched, or change the rules so that only they are allowed to look. "That's essentially what it is, except that it's computerized, not human." Christi
If you have submitted a family tree to Ancestry.com, you might want to know of the change about to be implemented by them. The Family Trees that have been donated to Ancestry for free distribution to other researchers are about to be sold by subscription: the OneWorldTree Preview cost will be $49.95 for 14 months. If you'd prefer that your information was not sold, there is a link below which will take you to a set of instructions on opting out by deleting your tree. After clicking on the link and arriving at the page, click on "What's a preview?" near the top of the page. Read thoroughly and then click on "View our checklist" (which appears on #3). Among other things, you will see the following sentence: "If for any reason you do not want your tree to be part of the new OneWorldTree service, you must delete it from the Ancestry World Tree database by tentatively May 21, 2004." This is the link: http://www.ancestry.com/search/rectype/trees/owt/

Dear Subscribers to the Greenup County, Kentucky Mailing List, Are there any researchers of the CLARK(E) surname on the List? William M. Clark married Martha A. Messer (daughter of Benjamin Pasley "Pass" Messer and Mary A. Conley) on July 3, 1864, according to the Annotated 1850 Census of Greenup County, as prepared by Evelyn Syphers Jackson. Does anyone know more about William M. Clark, such as who his parents were and what became of him after 1864? On January 18, 1870, Adoniram Cooper (1846-1875) married Martha A. Messer, in Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio. They were lifelong residents of Greenup County, as far as I know. This bride was supposedly the same person as the Martha A. Messer who married William M. Clark in 1864 in Greenup County. Thus, according to this scenario, Adoniram Cooper was Martha A. Messer's second husband. In the Civil War, there was a Private William M. Clark who served in the Union Army's Tenth Kentucky Cavalry, Company "K", 1862-1863. There was also a Private William M. Clark (AND a William Clark) who served in the Union Army's Fifty-fourth Regiment of Kentucky Mounted Infantry, Company "F", 1864-1865. There was a William Clark who served in Company "I" of the Union Army's Forty-fifth Regiment of Kentucky Mounted Infantry, 1864-1865. Also in Company "I" was James PRATT, who, when he was mustered out in February of 1865, reenlisted as a veteran in the Fourth Regiment of Kentucky Veteran Infantry. Were the three William M. Clarks the same person? Thank you for any help in identifying William M. Clark (and James Pratt)! Sincerely, Randal W. Cooper

hi Kathy my great grandfather was Squire Potter. Would love to have a picture of him. Do you have a scanner? Maybe if the list owner does not care, you could scan the photos to the list and then all of us who are related to the people could have a photo. Just a thought. let me know if you still have this photo of Squire Potter. Loretta Johnson in Mo

Dear Researchers who Include Greenup County, Kentucky in their Studies, Can anyone help me identify "Reube Hollow", whose watercourse flowed into Schultz Creek in Greenup County, Kentucky? The handwriting in the deed was not totally clear, so it is possible that the word "Reube" was misread. I have the text of a Greenup County deed, dated November 14, 1879. The 114-acre tract of land was conveyed to Hammon(d) W. Aldridge and his wife Sarah Harr by the widow Tomazine Harr and others (heirs of Furman Harr, deceased), for one hundred dollars. In the description of the boundaries of the tract, is the detail: "Beginning at a stone on Schultz Creek at the mouth of the Reube hollow". The boundary description goes on to mention that W.R. Thompson and Thaddeus Bennett were adjoining neighbors, as well as Thomazine Harr and Thomas Harr. "The horse hollow (lower-case letters)" was named, as part of the boundary. Was this Horse Hollow (capitalized), which flows in a southeasterly direction into Whiteoak Creek at the community of York, near the site of Kenton Furnace? If so, the 114-acre tract would have had to extend ~at least~ a mile in length, likely more, in order to be on the waters of Schultz Creek AND Horse Hollow. Is that possible? Is it possible for a 114-acre tract of land to be a mile or more in length? Thank you for your help in any of the problems named above. Don't you just love cartography? Best wishes for success to all! Sincerely, Randal W. Cooper
