    3. I found this obit in an old ledger. It is dated Aug. 10, 1914. Pleasant Chaudoin, the subject of this sketch, died Aug. 8, 1914 in his 84th year. He was born in Green County and always resided there. In 1851 he and Miss Martha Shields were married in Hart Co, Ky. He made profession of religion when he was 26 years old and joined the Macedonia Church of which he remained a consistent member until his death. He stood at the head of his church for many years as its largest contributor. He raised a family of 10 children, 9 of whom with their mother survive him. Among the relatives whom are two sisters, Betsy Moss of Adair Co. and Martha Arnett of Thurlow, the latter being about 90 years of age. In addition to his own large family he raised two grandchildren. He was a persevering and industrious man. Postmaster and merchant for many years at Osceola in this county. County Collector of Taxes one time and possibly the only man to collect the county taxes complete without a levy; he was a good husband and father, a firm friend and neighbor and unostentatious citizen although he was possessed of more means than the average men around him. Among other assets was a $3000 life insurance policy in the Illinois Life. the funeral was held at his late residence and conducted by Bro. W. L. Pierce after which the remains buried in the family cemetery on the John Chaudoin farm. The aged companion, children and relatives have the sympathy of the entire community which is extended to them with consoling thought that is not all of life to live nor all if death to die.
