Son of the late Creed and Ollie J. McMahan Paxton, he was born on March 17, 1922, in Metcalfe County, Ky. He was a member of Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, where he was an Elder Emeritus. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served under General Patton as a tank commander. He was also a member of the American Legion Rod Lowe Post #124 and was a farmer. He was married to Delia Landis on Dec. 30, 1941. She preceded him in death on Jan. 30, 2008. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Dianne Paxton and Duane Martin of Greensburg; three grandsons, William Lewis Rattliff and his wife, Tana, and Matt Rattliff, all of Greensburg, and Creighton Bloyd of Tennessee; four great-grandchildren, Zoi Rattliff, Levi Rattliff, Macy Rattliff and Elijah Rattliff, all of Greensburg; and three sisters-in-law, Elois Landrun, Ruth Hatton and Norma Jean Pear! ce, all of Louisville. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Magdalene Sublett, Ruby Powell, Mayme Kessler and Nellie Ennis. Funeral was Saturday, April 19 at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. Burial was in Ebenezer Cemetery with military rites by the Marion County Honor Guard. Pallbearers were Jerry Powell, Larry Ennis, Mike Ennis, William Lewis Rattliff, Matt Rattliff, Creighton Bloyd and Col. Bill Landrum. Honorary pallbearers were the Session of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, which can be made at Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home.
