He was a mold maker for 25 years, retiring in11985. Prior to becoming a mold maker he was a professional prize fighter known as "Irish Bob Murphy". He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy as a petty officer 2nd class. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion in Greensburg. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Montgomery Dixon, and a brother, Clyde "Cotton" Hignite. He is survived by five sons: Rudy Dixon, Brad Dixon, Brian Dixon and Alan Dixon, of Coldwater, Michigan, and Bradley McQuade, of California; nine daughters: Mary Marlene Oornstra, Coldwater, Michigan; Yvonne McAtee, Timmie Zielinski and Greta Dixon, Omaha, Nebraska; Rebecca Dixon, San Francisco, California; Stella Blair, Kentucky; Connie Dolan, Southport, Ohio; Patsy Siler, Bronson, Michigan; and Kim McQuade, California; two step-sons: Phillip Burkett, Indianapolis, Indiana! , and Anthony Burkett, Greensburg; two brothers: Frederich Ray Dixon, Jackson, Michigan, and Claude L. Hignite, Souix Falls, South Dakota; and two sisters: Marlene Ettinger and Yvonnia Dickison, Ashland. Funeral services were held Thursday, November 5, at Shirley Brothers Irving Hill Chapel with burial in the Washington Park East. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
