John Lafayette Hamilton's brother, Francis Gibson Hamilton, was my great-grandfather. His daughter, Genevra Hamilton who married Jim Scott, was my grandmother. I have combed the records in Sangamon, Menard and Cass counites to see if I could connect Miles to anyone else. I found a family of Hamiltons in the next section west but in Cass County, but I have not been able to get any more information on that family. I believe I also found Barbara's parents, but I am just guessing, of course. Miles was probably connected to the Nance family in Illinois. Two of the Nance brothers came to Texas at the same time as Miles, and Otway Bird Nance purchased property near the Hamiltons. I don't know if the two families had a previous relationship or not.
