Green County Review; Spring 2005, p. 15: J. B. MITCHELL AND THE MITCHELL CO. The Green County Record July 16, 1931 J. B. Mitchell, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Mitchell was born in Metcalf county near the city of Sulphur Well on October 24th, 1874 and lived and attended school in that community until 26 years of age working with his father on the home Mitchell place. The first big adventure in Mitchel's life was when he married the then Miss Eudora Vaughn of Green County on January 10, 1900. To this union four children have come to make their home and reside in the same city with their parents, Greensburg. After marrying Mr. Mitchell moved to Green county where he farmed for three years. At the end of this period he accepted a position as clerk in the store at Liletown and worked there in this capacity for 12 years. At the end of this time he made his first venture in business when he and T. J. Wilcoxson bought the Hubbard-Mitchell store. Later Wilcoxson sold his interest to E. V. Taylor and these men operated it until 1920 when they sold their interest, Mitchell moving to Lebanon and buyin! g a farm. He traded in livestock and tobacco for two years only to sell out and come back to Green county, locating in Greensburg and buying the present business establishment from J. L. Durham in pardnership with Lapsley Wilson. Soon afterwards an interest was sold to Miss Idella Edwards, a young school teacher of the county, and the firm has remained the same since. Mr. Mitchell also owned interest in the roller mill in Greensburg until it burned. He also helped organize the Biggs-Mitchell garage business and still holds interest in the same place but now the Chess Motor Company. He also owns a farm in pardnership with his son-in-law Ray Shuffett and has other business interest in the county. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
