Author: Karen_Jorgensen Surnames: Lowe, Marshall Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kentucky.counties.green/17833/mb.ashx Message Board Post: According to a Postal Telegram received by Mr. Guy Lowe on December from the Adjutant General of the United States, his son, Corporal Morris Rod Lowe was killed in action in defense of his country in the African area on December 2nd. Rod as he was familiarly known in Greensburg was 20 years old at the time of his death. He is the first known Green County casualty in the present war and was the first man to enlist under the selective service act from Green County. The local draft board's first quota in Nov. 1940 was one man and Rod volunteered to fill this the quota on Nov. 7th and was inducted on Nov. 26, 1940. After a short stay at Ft. Benjamin Harrison he was transferred to Ft. Knox where he remained from Dec. 1940 to May 1942. He was then transferred to Ft. Dix, N. J. where he remained five weeks before sailing for North Ireland. He was stationed in Ireland and England for some time prior to his removal to North Africa. No details have been received by his parents regardi! ng his death but it is known he was among the first casualties when our forces landed in North Africa. He was a graduate of the Greensburg High School in the class of 1939 and a Young man well thought of in the County. The last letter written by him to his parents was on Nov. 14th at which time he expressed himself as being well and happy. Survivals are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Lowe, one sister, Tena, Bell Lowe, and one brother, Buddie Lowe. Obituaries of Green Co.
