Gowen, Sr., age 51, formerly of Green County, died March 21, 1980 at Southwest Jefferson Community Hospital in Louisville. He was born in Green County April 28, 1928, the son of the late W.E. Gowen and Mattie Bale Gowen. He was a member of the Church of Jesus. Survivors include his wife, Edna Norton Gowen; six daughters: Martha Herbert, Ekron; Carol Pike, Battletown; Mary Carrier, Reta Washburn, Phyllis Mayes, and Patty Gowen all of Louisville; and one son, Sam Gowen, Jr., Louisville. Two brothers and four sisters also survive: Robert Gowen, Tacoma, Washington; Wylie Gowen and Jessie Thompson, Greensburg; Mary Price, Summersville; Geneva Higgins, Savannah, Georgia; Elsie Penn, Brandenburg. Other survivors include 10 grandchildren. Three sisters preceded him in death: Martha Morrison, Rachel Porter, and Marite Wigand. His funeral was March 23 at A.
