Smith Hamlett, daughter of the late Mr. Charlie Smith and Mrs. Mary Lou Richard Smith, was born February 2, 1908 Adair County, Kentucky, and departed this life Sunday, June 5, 1980 at the Jane Todd Crawford Memorial Hospital in Greensburg. She was 72 years, four months and 13 days of age. She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Hodges Chapel United Methodist Church at the time of her death. She united in marriage to Rev. Melvin Sylvester Hamlett April 6, 1929 and he preceded her in death September 7, 1970. Mrs. Hamlett is survived by one foster daughter: Mrs. Dorothy Todd, Michigan; her step-mother: Mrs. Virgie Smith, Albany, Kentucky; two sisters: Mrs. Sarah Wright, Summersville and Mrs. Nancy Coomer, Louisville; three, half-sisters: Mrs. Mary Bagby, Greensburg; Mrs. Lou Alice Penticuff, and Mrs. Lillie Mae Scott, both of Albany, Kentucky; 4 half brothers: James, Bill and Richard Smith, all of Greensburg and Vernon Russell Smith, Cl! arksville; Indiana; seven grand-children and four great-grand-children and host of other relatives and friends, The remains were at Cowherd and Parrott Home where funeral were conducted at 1 pm Tuesday, June 17, 1980 with burial in the Hodges Chapel Cemetery. Rev. Lester Carter officiated. Pallbearers were: Russell Bagby, Olen Bagby, Gary Bagby, Charles Wright, James Wright, and Carl Singleton. Obituaries of Green Co.
