Butler, 87, of Frankfort, died Friday, January 21, 2000, at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Lawrenceburg following a long illness. He was a native of Sulphur Well, Metcalfe County, former state senator, state school superintendent, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Commissioner of Agriculture, secretary of the Education and Arts Cabinet, Kentucky state government, and a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. He was the son of the late Henry and Pearl Pendleton Butler and the widower of Edna Ford Butler. Surviving him are three sons: Kendall Jerel, Rendell Terel and Wendell Ford Butler; three granddaughters: Kendra Alexis Miller, Erica Nicole and Bethanie Gaile Butler: one great-grandson: Nicholas Butler, all of Frankfort, one brother, Morris Butler, of Greensburg. Funeral services for Mr. Wendell P. Butler were conducted Tuesday, January 25. at the First United Methodist Church in Frankfort. Dr J.T. Harmon, Dr. James Shepherd. Dr. David Hilton, Rev. Don Karsn! er and former Governor Julian Carroll officiated. Burial was in the family lot in the Frankfurt Cemetery. V.F.W. Post 4075 conducted military honors at the gravesite. Active bearers were Louis Rowe, Gary Ford, Charles Rush, Danny Butler, Jerry Hueke, Jimmy Butler and Jerry Irving. Donations may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass or the First United Methodist Church. Harrod Bros. Funeral Home in Frankford was in charge of the funeral arrangements. Obituaries of Green Co.
