A native of Greensburg, she is a daughter of Arnold Ray and the late Anna Mildred McCarty Fitzgerald. She was a member of Immanual Baptist Church. She attended Sullins College in Bristol, Virginia, and was a graduate of the University of Kentucky. She was a past president of the Fayette County Homemakers Association. She was retired from McAlpin's Department Store. Survivors include two sons, Melvyn Stoess Cobb, Jr., Virginia, and Rex Cobb, Lexington; two daughters, Trudy Sims and Stacey Altwies, both of Lexington; three grandsons, Zachary ; and Ryan Cobb, and Griffin Sims; two granddaughters, Emma and Abigail Sims; and two sons-in-law, John Sims and Nick Altwies. Funeral services were held Saturday, September 19, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home by Rev. Walter Price. Burial was in the Lexington Cemetery.
