He was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church in Green County and a retired carpenter and farmer. He was preceded in death by a son, James Carl Akers. He is survived by his wife, Maymie [Melson] Akers; three daughters, Betty Walters, Elsie Misiak, and Frances Miller, all of Elizabethtown; three sons, Bobby Ray Akers of Hodgenville, Kenneth Lee Akers of Mt. Sherman and Billy Joe Akers of Elizabethtown; a brother, J.C. Akers of Hodgenville, and ten grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 18, at the Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville with Rev. Darrell Hensley officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Buffalo.
