Author: WandaBagbyCarlson Surnames: Skaggs, Hite, Matherly, DeSpain, Moss Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kentucky.counties.green/17438/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Mr. Ernest Hamilton Skaggs, 88, a retired farmer of 515 Coakley Street in Campbellsville, son of the late Mr. John William Skaggs and Mrs. Mary Inez Hite Skaggs, was born in Taylor County, October 18, 1890. He died at 5:55 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 18, [1978] at the Taylor County Hospital where he had been a patient for one day. He had professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Mt. Roberts Baptist Church. He united in marriage to Miss Annie Elizabeth Matherly, July 6, 1915. She preceded him in death May 3, 1976. To this union five sons and one daughter were born. Virginia Inez Skaggs died in infancy. Surviving are Mr. Hodges Skaggs of Campbellsville, Mr. Ted Skaggs, Mr. Thomas H. Skaggs, and Mr. James B. Skaggs, all of Louisville, and Mr. Lee Skaggs of Galatin, Tennessee. Besides his five sons, he is survived by twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters: Mrs. Anna DeSpain of Campbellsville, Mrs. Minnie Moss, Mr. Albert Skaggs, an! d Mr. Willie Skaggs, all of Campbellsville, Rt. 4; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m., Monday, Nov. 20 at the Parrott and Ramsey Funeral Chapel by Rev. Van Thompson. Burial was in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens.
