He was 91 years, two months and 22 days of age. He had made a profession of faith and was a self-employed carpenter. He united in marriage May 14, 1938 to Lucille Elmore, who preceded him in death March 24, 1999. He was also preceded in death by four sons: James A. Adkins, Jerry Adkins, Raymond Lewis Adkins and Patrick Adkins; five sisters: Irene Oakes Kitchen, Josephine Lavine, Elizabeth Elmore, Christine Moran and Emma Jane Adkins and two brothers: Frank Adkins and Edwin Adkins. Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law: Margaret and David Dawson of Greensburg, Josie Adkins of Vine Grove and Lydia and Junior Simpson of Edmonton; three sons: William Adkins, Robert Adkins and Ricky and his wife Linda Adkins, all of Greensburg; a daughter-in-law! : Barbara Adkins of Indiana; a brother: Flemm Adkins Jr. of Louisville; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral services for Adkins were conducted Jan. 18 at Cowherd and Parrott funeral Home with burial in the Adkins-Elmore family cemetery in Green County. Bro. Kenny Rager, Bro. Gilbert Larimore, Bro. Harold Hays and Bro. Dean Roach officiated. Memorials are suggested to the Adkins-Elmore family cemetery, which can be made at the funeral home.
