He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Hogards Chapel United Methodist Church and was a self-employed businessman and farmer. He united in marriage to Margaret Louise Sharpe on January 24, 1942, who preceded him in death on June 26, 2006. He was also preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters, Leon Atwell, Thurman Atwell, Joe Atwell, Harlan Atwell, Maudie Whitlock, and Delcie Hinton. Survivors include two daughters and a son, Charlotte Milby & husband Tom, Campbellsville, Rhonda G. Atwell, Columbia, and Rick Atwell & wife Deb, Greensburg; two grandchhildren, Josh Atwell, Lexington, and Kali Atwell Edwards & husband Paul, Louisville; four sisters and a brother, Edith Compto! n and Mildred Patterson, both of Greensburg, Sybil Webster, Louisville, Madean Curry, Campbellsville, and Claudie Atwell, Louisville; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 10, 2008 at Cowherd & Parrott Funeral Home in Greensburg with burial in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens. Rev. Earl West and Rev. Steve Latham officiated. Pallbearers: Finis Wayne Durrett, Bobby Fisher, Phillilp Tommy Judd, Gary Smith, Terry Hayes, and Bernie Cave. Honorary Pallbearers: The Men of Hogards Chapel Church. The family has requested that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Hogards Chapel Building Fund, which can be made at the funeral home.
