Daughter of the late William David Hodges and Ida Mae Marshall Hodges, she was born on Sept. 11, 1921, in Green County, Ky. She was a member of Summersville Baptist Church. She was also a homemaker and a piano teacher. She was married to Broadus Lee Akin on April 17, 1938. He preceded her in death on March 25, 1999. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Alice Jean and David Cowherd of Dayton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Shay Akin of San Antonio, Texas and David Alan and Donna Akin of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Karen Cowherd, Linda and Nathan Crawford, Jill Cowherd, Shannon and Ron Souddress, Scott and Kim Akin, James David and Vanissa Akin and Matthew Sartin Akin; a brother and sister-in-law, Joe Tommy and Barbara Hodges of Summersville; a brother-in-law, Calvin Paxton of Louisville, Ky.; and six great-gra! ndchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ashley Akin; a sister, Jean Paxton; and a brother, David Hodges. Funeral was Sunday, Jan. 27 at Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home in Greensburg. Bro. Chuck Pollard officiated. Burial was in Green County Memory Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Gideon Bible fund and can be made at the funeral home.
