    3. Hi Green Co. Listers! I just competed Vol. 9 of the Green Co. Obit books. Whew! I hope you will enjoy having these obits. I wanted to tell you all how much I appreciated your helping me to answer the questions I have about some of the obits. I feel that we all can contribute to the body of genealogical data available for Green Co. I will be trying to finish up Vol. 2. Wanda is almost done with Vol. 1. He was united in marriage to Lara Akins, April 21, 1899. To this union five children were born. He is survived by his wife, and the following children, Mrs. Ethel Hood, Sonny Marcum. Mrs. Kate Foley, Buck Marcum, and Mrs. Mattie Pace; one brother. Scott Marcum of Michigan; two sisters. Mrs. Helen Bibb, and Mrs. Berchie Davis. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, with Rev. V. A. Jones in charge. Burial was in the Greensburg cemetery. Pallbearers were Leroy Hood, 'Bobby Foley, Shreve Akin, Cecil Hood, Frank Turner, Clinton Kelly. Maybe some closer to this family can add the correct information. He had been in ill health for the past 2 years. Funeral services will be held today (Friday) at 3 o'clock at Brush Creak Baptist Church and interment will be in Perkins cemetery. Rex Burly Cantrell will be in charge of the services, assisted by Rev. Noble Cottrell. The son of the late Mrs. Het Touen and William Elmore, he was born in Green County March 21, 1873. He professed faith in Christ early in life and united with the Summersville Baptist Church where he remained a member until death. He had been in ill health for the past two years. He was united in marriage to Miss Mary Marcum 57 years ago and to this union 9 daughters and 6 sons were born. Two daughters preceded him in death, Linda in infancy and Bertha who died 11 years ago. At press time funeral arrangements had not been made. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday at Mt. Lebanon Methodist Church for Zollie Ervin who died Thursday, June 18 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Albert Judd, Greensburg, at the age of 70. Rev. Mr. Ervin was a resident of the old Thurlow community where he was engaged in blacksmithing for a number of years. Latimer of the Court of Appeals died unexpectedly at his home in Frankfort Sunday morning [1952]. He was 61 years of age. Judge Latimer would have become Chief Justice January 1, under the appellate plan of rotation. Dr. E. S. Kimbel, his physician, said Judge Latimer died of a heart attack a few minutes after arising shortly before 6:a.m. He collapsed while dressing and was dead when the doctor arrived. Judge Latimer came to the high bench as the appointee of Governor Simeon Willis, succeeding Judge Will Fulton, Bardstown, who had resigned to enter private practice in Louisville. Judge Latimer was elected to the one-year unexpired term and then re-elected to a full term of eight years in 1946. Judge Latimer was prominent in the affairs of the Methodist Church and was well known throughout the state as a lay Methodist speaker. He was a native of Omaha, III., and went to Glasgow in 1927 to begin the practice of law. Judge Latimer is survived by his wife, two so! ns, a daughter, and three brothers and three sisters. The daughter of Terry Atwell of Center, Mr. and Mrs. Lane moved to Edmonton 14 years ago. Until she became an invalid, Mrs. Lane was active in the affairs of the Baptist Church there where she was a member. Besides her husband and father, she is survived by two brothers, Ray and Victor Atwell, both of Center. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the Edmonton Baptist Church, the Rev. V. Eubank, Roachville, died in the Lebanon Hospital Tuesday afternoon from burns suffered Sunday when her clothes were ignited from a blazing can or kerosene. The victim was burned over her entire body, and after the flames were extinguished she was rushed to the hospital. Also hospitalized was her son, G. T. Eubank, whose hands were badly burned when he tried to tear the burning clothes from her body. Her husband's hands were burned also, although not so seriously. The son, whose home is in Campbellsville, was visiting there for the day. Funeral services were held Thursday morning in the Liberty Baptist Church with burial in the Liberty cemetery. Besides her husband and son the 44-year-old Mrs. Eubank is survived by a daughter, Miss Melodine Eubank of Iowa; her mother, Mrs. C. H. Hatcher, Pike View; two grandchildren, Linda Lee and James Eubank, of Campbellsville; three sisters, Mrs. Wilson Cox and Mrs. Lionel Clark, both of Pike View, and Mrs. Owen Rucker, Green! sburg, and a brother, J. A military funeral was held at the Mt. Lebanon Church with the American Legion in charge. Rev. Coy Jeffries, chaplain of the Legion Post 124 conducted the service and burial was in the Curry cemetery. The son of Scott and Matilda Meadows Erwin, he volunteered for service in June 1941 and served with the 95th Coast Artillery in North African theater until September 1945 when he was discharged due to ill health. He was born May 1, 1860, near Pleasant Valley and he lived his entire life in Green County with the exception of four years in Adair County. He taught school for many years in Green, Adair, and Hart Counties. Mr. Durham was a lawyer here for many years, retiring because of ill health several years ago. He was Commonwealth's Attorney of this Judicial District composed of Green, Taylor, Marion and Washington Counties from 1904 to 1908. In 1912 he was a member of the electoral college of Woodrow Wilson. A lifelong Democrat, he was always active in politics. For the past 23 years he and his son, Mayes, have been in the lumber business here. He was twice married. He first married Miss Elrie Willis of Adair County, who died in 1905. Their son, Mayes Willis Durham, survives. In 1912 he married Miss Mary Stowers of Simpson County. To thi! s marriage were born three daughters: Mrs. Elizabeth Stone, Central City; Mrs. Catherine Magel, Dayton, Ohio; Mrs. Martha Shearard, Berea. Survivors besides his wife and children are three grandchildren: Mrs. Margaret Willis Grant, Larry Stone Jr., and Robert L. Magel; 1 great-grandson, Lee B. Grant, Jr. Mr. Durham was a member of the Masonic Order and of Marion Commandery. A Presbyterian from early life, he has been an elder of this church for many years. Funeral services were held at the Greensburg Presbyterian Church Wednesday, June 4, at 10:00 a.m., the Rev. V. A. Jones in charge. Burial was in the Greensburg cemetery. Active pallbearers were G. B. Taylor, Walton Burress, William Hicks, Hugh Howell, Henry Woodward, and Colby Cowherd. Honorary pallbearers were Joe Calhoon, Milton Vaughn, Walter Milby, J. W. Sunday, August 12, at the age of 40. Paul had worked the day before and apparently felt as good as usual. He became ill Sunday morning and died that night. He had been in the garage business here for several years, and was a veteran of World War II. He united in marriage to Miss Gertrude Beard on August 9, 1935. To this union one son and one daughter were born, Paul Joseph and Sheila Mae. Surviving are his wife and children, father and mother; one sister, Mrs. Houston Hartfield of Greensburg; stepfather, Mr. C. W. Spillman and stepmother, Mrs. Bettie Wright Davenport, both of Greensburg. Funeral services were, held at 2 p. m., Tuesday, August 14 at his home, with Rev. V. A. Jones in charge. Burial was in the Greensburg cemetery. Active pallbearers were Hubert Coak, Omar Shuffett, Ellis Bagby, Wo! odrow Squires, Virgil Squires, Bob T. Blakeman. Honorary pallbearers were Free man Faulkner, Earl Kelly, Moody Hancock, Walter Mitchell, Joe Guthrie, Chick Pickett, Neal Cox, Smith Clark, Bert Bohannan, Russell Phillips. Obituaries of Green Co.
