Back in the older days every little community had someone in their neighborhood who sent into the paper various happenings. "Sailor Boy" was the person who wrote the articles for OSCEOLA. These writings were in every week of the Record are are available today at the Green County Library on microfilm. It is a lot of fun readings. You can find who's old sow had a litter of pigs. and etc. Wayne Walker in Louisville On Mon, April 7, 2008 12:25, Bonnie Wallace wrote: > I found this obit in an old ledger. I found this obit in an old ledger. It is dated Aug. 10, 1914. Pleasant Chaudoin, the subject of this sketch, died Aug. 8, 1914 in his 84th year. He was born in Green County and always resided there. In 1851 he and Miss Martha Shields were married in Hart Co, Ky. He made profession of religion when he was 26 years old and joined the Macedonia Church of which he remained a consistent member until his death. He stood at the head of his church for many years as its largest contributor. He raised a family of 10 children, 9 of whom with their mother survive him. Among the relatives whom are two sisters, Betsy Moss of Adair Co. and Martha Arnett of Thurlow, the latter being about 90 years of age. In addition to his own large family he raised two grandchildren. He was a persevering and industrious man. Postmaster and merchant for many years at Osceola in this county. County Collector of Taxes one time and possibly the only man to collect the county taxes complete without a levy; he was a good husband and father, a firm friend and neighbor and unostentatious citizen although he was possessed of more means than the average men around him. Among other assets was a $3000 life insurance policy in the Illinois Life. the funeral was held at his late residence and conducted by Bro. W. L. Pierce after which the remains buried in the family cemetery on the John Chaudoin farm. The aged companion, children and relatives have the sympathy of the entire community which is extended to them with consoling thought that is not all of life to live nor all if death to die. Sailor Boy Who was Sailor Boy?
Thanks, Ladies. You gave me back my grandmother's missing obit and answered many questions like "Why in the world did mom we always take us to visit those people. Who were they?" You are appreciated. So sorry h_maisch. I'm guessing we have different Moses Morris' in our lines. My Mose(s) Morris was born 1835 and died 1899 in Green County. The only known children I have for him are William Luther (1863-1934), James Harvey (1854-1854), Delphena Jane (1855-?), Martha Ann (1858-1915), Moses Riley (1865-?), Sarah Elizabeth (1862-1919). If there were more kids, I'm not aware of them. William Luther and Sarah Elizabeth both ended up marrying and passing away in Oldham County. Martha died in Metcalfe County, and one of my cousins made mention that Moses Riley had a West Virginia connection, but I do not have the details. Many in my family also had Missouri connections, but I did not know if and when they might have traveled there. William Luther married Emma Carlisle/Carlile and her death certificate states she was born in Missouri, even though I'm not sure that is correct. I also have it that she was born in Taylor County, K! entucky. Are you at all familiar with this line? Anybody else out there familiar with this line and might have more details for me? Thanks a million! Donnie Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Also a big hand for Eunice who put so much time and effort into collecting the obits. I am looking forward to the next Volume.
