The accident occurred about ten miles west of Hazard. The bus was owned by the Shortway Bus Company of Somerset and driven by Titus Jessee, Edmonton. The woman was identified as Mrs. Golden Roberts, a passenger in the taxi, and the mother of four children. Her husband, an employee of the State Highway Department, suffered serious head injuries. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Campbellsville and was a former restaurant owner. She was married to O.F. Hatcher, who preceded her in death in 1953. She later married Oscar Atherton on Jan. 10, 1955. He preceded her in death on July 7, 2001. Survivors include a daughter, Geneva Moran of Shreveport, La.; a son, Josh Albert Hatcher of Greensburg; three grandchildren, Jennifer Hatcher of Gwinn, Mich., Joy Hatcher-Schneider and her husband, James, of Greensburg and Larry Moran of Shreveport; four great-grandchildren, Jackie Cochran of Hollywood, Fla., Chelly VanSlykes of Indiana and Megan and Ethan Branham, both of Utah; a great-great- grandchild, Kyler Brooklyn Cochran of Hollywood; eight nieces, Billie Russell of Campbells! ville, Elizabeth MacLamore of Bowling Green, Ky., Dorothy Sloan of Bonnieville, Ky., Rebecca Judd of Indiana, Agnes Ann Beard of Ohio, Judy Miller of Florida, Betty Rose Rease of New Albany, Ind., and Mildred Miller of Indiana; and four nephews, James Cook of Bowling Green, Harold Wright of Utah, William Ferrell of Knifley, Ky., and James Elmer Cook of Bowling Green. The body was lying in the back seat of an automobile parked on the side of the road, according to Deputy Sheriff Willie Warren. A Coroner's Jury returned a verdict of death from unknown causes. The daughter of Jessie Howell and Lucy Skaggs Howell, she was born January 4, 1917 and died April 6, 1953. She was united in marriage to Robert Thompson. To this union one son was born. She was later united in marriage to Damon Russell who is now with the Armed Forces in Korea. Besides her husband she is survived by one son, Kelly Thompson; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Howell; seven brothers, Hoyet, Rondle, Jack, Gool, Gordon, Rual, and Doyel Howell; two sisters, Mrs. Ann Wilson and Mrs. Dollie Hughes.
