Jack served in World War II and was recognized by President Richard Nixon for his contribution and development of the C-5A aircraft. Be was a life member of the Tennessee Aviation Association. Jack was awarded the "Charles E. Taylor" Master Mechanic Award and was listed in the National Federal Administration Museum in Washington, B.C. Survivors include his wife; Ardys V. (Gerri) Small; son and daughter-in-law: Rev. William J. and Mickie Small of Greensburg; daughters and sons-in-law: Joyce and Jerry Allen of Louisville, Linda and Larry Payne of Alcoa; daughter: Kathy Morgan of Alcoa; grandchildren: Diane and husband Richard Marsh, Debi and husband Andy .Salmon, Christie and husband James Trentham, Sandy and husband Brad Hatcher, Karen Small and Michelle Morgan; great-grandchildren: Cody and Justin Marsh, Heather Small, Kayla! The accident occurred about ten miles west of Hazard. The bus was owned by the Shortway Bus Company of Somerset and driven by Titus Jessee, Edmonton. The woman was identified as Mrs. Golden Roberts, a passenger in the taxi, and the mother of four children. Her husband, an employee of the State Highway Department, suffered serious head injuries.
