He died at 5:55 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 18, [1978] at the Taylor County Hospital where he had been a patient for one day. He had professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Mt. Roberts Baptist Church. He united in marriage to Miss Annie Elizabeth Matherly, July 6, 1915. She preceded him in death May 3, 1976. To this union five sons and one daughter were born. Virginia Inez Skaggs died in infancy. Surviving are Mr. Hodges Skaggs of Campbellsville, Mr. Ted Skaggs, Mr. Thomas H. Skaggs, and Mr. James B. Skaggs, all of Louisville, and Mr. Lee Skaggs of Galatin, Tennessee. Besides his five sons, he is survived by twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters: Mrs. Anna DeSpain of Campbellsville, Mrs. Minnie Moss, Mr. Albert Skaggs, an! d Mr. Willie Skaggs, all of Campbellsville, Rt. 4; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m., Monday, Nov. 20 at the Parrott and Ramsey Funeral Chapel by Rev. Van Thompson. Burial was in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens. Walter Lay, Dr. J. Chester Badgett and Everett DeWitt. Burial in Brookside Cemetery. Mr. Skaggs, a Green County native, was born July 11, 1896, son of Mattie Coakley and Frank Skaggs. He was a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. August 12, 1935 he was married to Elizabeth Webb, who survives. Besides his wife he is survived by one daughter and three sons, Mrs. Jo Ann Carter, Leonard and Norman Skaggs, all of Campbellsville and James D. Skaggs, Route 4. One son preceded him in death in 1935. Also surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Nellie Miller, Mrs. Emma Allen, Mrs. Mary L. Survivors include one son: Glenn Skaggs of Orrville, Ohio; one daughter: Mrs. Jewell Ratcliff of Route 1, Campbellsville; one brother: Gordon St. Clair of Detroit, Michigan; five grandchildren and six great-grand children. One son, Clarence Ray Skaggs preceded his mother in death. Funeral services were held at Lyon Funeral Home Chapel at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 7, with Rev. She united in marriage to Mr. James Page Bridgewater on November 27, 1919, in Green County. He preceded her in death on December 12, 1975. To this union were born two daughters: Hortense Kessler of Greensburg and Estelle Taylor, who preceded her mother in death. She is also survived by two granddaughters: Patsy Burns and Martha Page Houk, both of Greensburg; four great-grandchildren: Brent Burris of Glasgow, Amy Houk Bishop of Louisville, Ashley Burris of Greensburg, and Charlie Houk of Greensburg; one great-great-grandson: Zechariah Edward Taylor Houk of G! reensburg; one grandson-in-Iaw: Maxie Houk of Greensburg; two great-grandddaughters-in-law and one great-grandson-in-law: Tracey Burris of Glasgow, Brian Bishop of Louisville, and Regina Houk of Greensburg; and a host of other relatives and friends. He came to Green Co. as a young man where he spent the remainder of his 88 years. In 1874, he was married to Miss Bettie White, to this union 5 children were born. Elinor, Mrs. D.T. Wilson, Louisville; Nona Cleveland, Lillie Maud and Mrs. R.K. Vance of Greensburg. Three of these preceded him to the grave. December 19 1894, he was married to Mrs. Tippie Gill Cox and to this union 4 children were born, Charlie Bridgewater, Jim P. Bridgewater, Mrs. L.A. Burress, Greensburg, and Henry who passed away several years ago. He leaves 1 sister, Mrs. Susie Wilson of Irvington, Ky., and 1 brother, Mr. A.N. Bridgewater of Greensburg. He also leaves 1 step-son, Mr. Fulton Cox of Columbia who was reared with this family. There are 22 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and a large number of nieces and nephews and many friends to mourn ! his passing. At middle age he professed faith in Christ and united with the Ebenezer Presbyterian church. He was a devoted christian and was always interested in anything for the upbuilding of his county. He was one of the directors who built the old Greensburg and Columbia pike. Funeral services were conducted at Ebenezer church by his pastor, Rev. J.T. Stewart, Sunday afternoon. Services held at the Pierce Methodist Church were in charge of Rev, L. C. Risen and Rev. Ray Crenshaw, and burial was in the family cemetery. Mrs. Bishop, the daughter of the late Jim Houk and Martha Ann Lile was born May 17, 1876. She was united in marriage in 1893 to William Virgie Bishop and to this union 8 children were born. Her husband and 5 children preceded her in death. She was a member of the Pierce Methodist Church. Surviving are 3 children, Mrs. Loysbel Curry, and Vonnie Bishop, Pierce, and Gloda Bishop, Hardyville. Also surviving are one half-brother, Eura Houk, Pierce, and 4 grandchildren and 1 great grand-child. Mr. Bloyd, son of the late John M. Bloyd and Nancy Jane Larimore Bloyd, was born February 25, 1866 in Green County. He was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church. He was united in marriage to Bobby E. Money on April 12, 1925, who survives. Besides his wife, he is survived by three brothers, and two sisters, Robert Bloyd, Dave Bloyd, Rt. 1, Greensburg, Jim I. Bloyd, Campbellsville, and Mrs. Arthur Wilson and Mrs. Irene Blevins, Dayton, Ohio. Funeral services were held Thursday at Friendship Baptist Church, Taylor County, with the Rev. Bennett, retired farmer, and father, of Summersville merchant, died Tuesday, December 27, at his home in the Lobb section. Funeral ser vices were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 29 at the Pleasant Valley Church and burial was in the Pleasant Valley cemetery. Reverend Berlin Cantrell had charge of the services with Reverend Noble Cottrell and Reverend Richardson assisting. The son of Nicholas and Mary McCubbin Bennett, he was born June 16, 1870. He united in marriage to Laura Ella Loyall who preceded him in death 26 years ago. To this union one son, Johnnie Bennett, Summersville, was born. Later he married Pearl Vaughn. He was a member of the Holly Grove Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, one son, and two grandchildren, Mrs. Louise Foster, and Mrs. Viola Tarter, both of Louisville, and 3 great-grandchildren and 1 step-son, Eddie Bloyd, Lobb, and Tommie Bennett whom he raised. He was 91 years and seven months of age. He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Greasy Creek Baptist Church at the time of his death. He operated a store at Exie for 3 number of years. He united in marriage to Miss Inez Dane Judd on January 20, 1928, who preceded him in death January 12,1989. To this union were born five daughters and one son. Surviving are: Lavella Turner, Elizabethtown; Kledith Houk, Gail Rodgers and Barbara Beauchamp, all of Greensburg, and Phyllis Akin, Campbellsville. Bernard Bagby preceded his father in death. Mr. Bagby is also survived by one sister, Pauline Clark, Greensburg; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildre! n, and a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral for Mr. Elmo Bagby was conducted Tuesday, September 22, at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home with burial in the Greasy Creek Cemetery. Rev. Mark Lile and Rev. Wilburn Bonta officiated. There were Masonic Rites Services conducted by the Greensburg Masonic Rites #54 F&AM on Monday at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home. She was a daughter of the late William Porter and Nancy Jane Duke Porter. Her husband, German Allen, has been dead several years. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Fannie Piper, Miami, Florida; Mrs. Lucy Owens, Texas; a brother, E.A. Porter, Sulphur Well, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at Center Methodist Church on Friday with the Rev. V. V. Capps officiating. Burial was in Center Cemetery. Mrs. Betty Lou Adams, 24, was burned beyond recognition, Deputy Sheriff Oris Durrett said. She was pinned under the automobile when it went into a ditch. Her husband, Hiram William Adams, suffered a fractured arm, cuts and bruises. The son, William Chester Adams, suffered a crushed chest and head injuries. The father and son were pulled from the wreckage by passing motorists. They were first taken to Rosary Hospital, Campbellsville, and were moved to the Baptist Hospital in Knoxville, Sunday by ambulance. The Adams automobile collided with a car driven by Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson of Campbellsville, Durrett said. Another car involved in the accident was driven by Ezra Miller of Taylor County. The remains of Mrs. Adams were taken to Middlesboro, Ky. to the C! awood Funeral Home. Funeral services were to be at Fountain City, Tenn. Tuesday, December 6. Obituaries of Green Co. Ky. She was the sister of Mrs. Josie Graham, Greensburg. Mrs. Astrom, a native of Green county, was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. W. A. Settle. One daughter preceded her in death. She and the late Butler Ford, then her husband, operated the Ford Hotel in Hodgenville for many years. Surviving are one son, Warner Ford of Lexington; three sisters, Mrs. Carrie Roberts and Mrs. Kittie Mitchell of Louisville and Mrs. Graham and one brother, Will Settle of Louisville. Also surviving are two grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Hodgenville. Pallbearers were men who had boarded with her in Lexington and Gleason Keltner of Greensburg. Obituaries of Green Co. Ky.
