Aaron was born in 1798 and died in 1846. His tombstone is still intact and standing. His wife Elizabeth is not buried at the same cemetery however. She survived her husband for many years (1801-1889. She was buried near the Conoloway Creek farm of her son William in a very small family cemetery. This farm would be located off the Dickey's Mill Road near the Anneta community, although I have never been there. The graves in the small cemetery were relocated by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers back around 1960 when Nolin Lake Reservoir was created and the lake took up some of the surrounding farms. Elizabeth and William's coffins and tombstones were removed to the Anneta Baptist Church cemetery at that time. Unfortunately, a lot of the tombstones in the Old Burnt Church Cemetery have been knocked over and broken up because a nearby farmer on! ce allowed his cattle to roam through the cemetery and they caused a lot of damage. I have seen some of the Phillips monuments and the Pearman monuments. I have also seen the military tombstone for the Moore soldier. This cemetery does sit within a few hundred yards of Rock Creek and was once the site of the first church established in present-day Grayson County, and was called originally the Rock Creek Baptist Church. Are you related to the Downs family and do you have any additioinal info pertaining to that family? Thanks. Barry Downs Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
