Florence Cubbage Patterson was born April 10, 1858, and died October 17, 1905, in Grayson County, Kentucky. Her birth home was between Leitchfield and Clarkson. Her father was Whitsell Kindle Cubbage and her mother was Mary Frances Marston. She married John Patterson in 1887 and lived near Clarkson. They attended the Clarkson Baptist Church. They had one child, Robbie Patterson, born 9 May 1889. Robbie married Charles Gardner Purcell. The quilt was prepared by church members and friends shortly after her death. In the center it says: "Sacred to the Memory of Florence Patterson, Born April 10th, 1858, died Oct. 17th, 1905, Blessed are they that die in the Lord, Baptist Ladies Aid, Clarkson, Ky" The names of the friends are embroidered on the quilt, primarily in circles, or "wheels" with the names as spokes, although some names are not in the circles. It is difficult to make out the correct spelling of some of the names, particularly the capital letters. Some of the names are repeated in different circles. There are about 725 names on the quilt, including the repeats. My family was told that the quilt was passed from family to family, so the actual sewing was probably done by the named person. My family donated the quilt to the Grayson County Historical Society, so you can see it there. I have a Word document with all of the names listed, but not in alphabetical order. If you want a copy of the document, email me direct as it is impossible to attachment a document to this list. Jim, my Patterson family was related to the Denton family, by marriage. Rebecca Patterson married William Carr Denton and they moved to Wyoming and raised a family there. I have quite a bit of Denton info, and I am missing quite a bit, so maybe we should trade information. Charles A. Leach <mailto:charlesleach@comcast.net> charlesleach@comcast.net
