Miranda, Do you have a DOB; DOD and places for Giles Kelly? And do you know the parents of Giles? Thanks, Betsy -------Original Message------- From: Miranda Griffin Date: 5/26/2008 10:34:26 PM To: kygrayso-l@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [KYGRAYSO] Location of Farm of John GRIFFIN, 1798-1864, on Hwy 1168? Hello, I have a photo of cemetery passed down that Jane ______ Griffin is buried there along with my GG-Grandmother Henrietta Martin Griffin, there is one grave marker with writing for Little Mary Frances Martin. The last known burial was Leanna Griffin Hutcherson March 07, 1936 a grand-daughter of John Griffin b. 1798, and daughter of Thomas Griffin and Bettie Shaffer. Leanna went to Kentucky University and taught school in Rockingham Co. NC and I don't know where else. I have a photo of Leanna. I plan a trip to Grayson Co. Ky for the Epps/Hart Reunion on July 5-6 and maybe I will find proof in Frankfort. John Griffin also had a daughter Elizabeth that married Giles Kelly and one of their sons was an Attorney or Lawyer in Grayson Co. Ky and Teacher in 1920 in Hardin Co. Ky Elizabethtown. I do not know John Griffin's b. 1798 wife's name, a possibility might be Jane Cardwell but that date is after some of his children are born, but I don't have positive date for John's children's birth, the census calculations are not consistant. It was suggested to me that John Griffin b. 1798 may have married sisters and the first died could be reason for a late marriage date but his children seem to be born even time apart. I do not have an immigrant; in the 1840 census of Rkg. Co. NC under the household of John Griffin gives a Pensioner age 79 James Griffin, Father??? Uncle??? I tried some military records and pensions and have not connected to the James Griffin age 79 to John Griffin b. 1798. The Estate papers for John Griffin are available at the North Carolina Archives in Raleigh http://www.ah.dcr.state.nc.us/archives/mail.htm and click on Use our on-line form to send your request via e-mail. I will take these papers with me to the Epps/Hart Reunion July 5-6, 2008 in Elizabethtown Kentucky, or you can order on line. check out the website. Some of the documents included in the Estate Papers of Stokes County for John Griffin are in the Grantee and Grantor deed books. This was a long drawn out family processing and settlement. I have a site on myfamily.com for some info of John Griffin's family if you would like an invitation. It is not up to date as I would like and you can find some photos.. Email if you want an invitation. I have found more information on John Griffin's daughter Elizabeth that married Giles Kelly and Fannie that married James Monroe Martin which he was found in Chicago, Cook Co., Ill. census as widowed under son-in-law David Walter Leslie. I would love to find a letter passed to the families that moved to Ky. and copies of photos ofWilliam Griffin and Laura Ellen Carter Griffin's children Miranda Griffin mirandagriffin@hotmail.com> From: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> To: KYGRAYSO-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Fri, 23 May 2008 16:02:47 +0000> Subject: Re: [KYGRAYSO] Location of Farm of John GRIFFIN, 1798-1864, on Hwy 1168?> > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list.> > Author: toriandcodysmom> Surnames: Griffin> Classification: queries> > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa states.kentucky.counties.grayson/9796.2/mb.ashx> > Message Board Post:> > Hi Miranda. I've read your posts with great interest. I am a descendant of Henry Leslie Griffin and Zemmer McDonald. Henry was one of William M Griffin and Laura Carter Griffin's youngest sons. Would be interested in sharing any information you might have gathered on the William M branch or on his siblings. I have info on William (he died 24 Jan 1927 and is buried in the Santa Anna cemetery in Coleman Co. TX) and Laura (she died 20 Feb 1922 also in the Santa Anna Cemetery)(I have 2 pictures of them. One is digitized and is when they lived in Bohbam, TX around 1900) Powell, William Forrest (1 picture), Laura E, Louisa M. James Franklin, Elizabeth L (picture), Henry and Zemmer (several pictures) and Jeff D. Griffin).> > I have several questions that I hope you can help me answer....> > Do you know for sure that Jane (John's wife) is buried in Stokes Co. NC? Is there a cemetery to visit or headstone to see? Do you know her maiden name? Have you found the immigrant Griffin? Are the estate papers you have on John in a digital format? Are they available at the Stokes Co courthouse?> > Important Note:> The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
