She was a very special lady. She taught me about quilting too. She got me really interested in it and I have actually done a little of it. I used to email her daughter Charlotte, we found each other online, then found that our families were distant relations and my aunts knew her mom. Elsie wrote me a letter when she sent me a copy of her book a year or two before she died. Elsie Rhea Ford Miller 04/26/2002 - Miller Elsie R. Miller, 90, of Louisville, formerly of Clarkson, KY, died Wednesday at Caritas Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Acie R. Miller. She is survived by three daughters, Charlotte Higdon, Patricia Wright and Beverly Maier; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday (CDT) at the Watson & Hunt Funeral Directors in Leitchfield, KY. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be after 12 p.m. Friday (CDT) at the funeral home. --------- Wade Singleton Miller b. 1844 married Sabra E. McSherry. He was the son of William Miller b. 1813 and Delilah House Miller. I have not found where the Singleton name comes from or if it is a relation. Wade and Sabra came out to Oregon in 1891, by that time you could take the train, but it was a long trip for a family. I am not sure why they came out, if they knew someone else who did. Sabra's brother Samuel Allison McSheery came out to Oregon, I am not sure which ones came first. Wade and Sabra's son Grayson Alison (G.A.) Miller moved his family back to Kentucky for a few years in the early 1900's, that is where my grandfather Marion was born in Caneyville. He talked fondly of Kentucky, although I am not sure if he ever went back as an adult like his sisters, he worked in the lumber mill industry for 40 years. I think G.A. Miller visited in the 1930's or 40s. He and his wife Clara lived for a time right on the coast in Port Orford, Oregon. In Lane County, it was a few hours from the coast back in those days, so they probably went over there. We take it for granted being near the coast, about 1 1/2 hr away, my sister lived in Louisville for 10 years and felt landlocked, no beach not much seafood except frozen. I never went back to visit her then I wish I had so I could have gone to Grayson Co. but I will someday. Gina Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I don't know how much help it will be because I did talk with all of daddy's brother and sisters and none of them knew their grandmother's name. I am like you and find that so hard to understand except that we knew she had not been able to raise him. It just seems strange. I never got to know any of them as they had all died before I was born and Charlie died when I was a baby. His wife Hettie was John J. and Hanora Paradine Embrey's oldest daughter. She and my mom, Cuba, were sisters and daddy, Howard and Charlie were half brothers. I am actually a granddaughter of Hettie and Charlie but was raised by Howard and Cuba. Talk about confusing but they were great parents and it was a really good thing for me. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have done that for a few of my line or my husband's line, his family was harder for me, as no one knew some of the names of relatives from not that far back, his mother died when he was a teen, and his grandparents. Most of my family lines, save a few I have back to at least the 1700's here in the US. It may not help as it may not say his mother's name if the informant that gave the info for it did not know. That gets frustrating, I sometimes wonder how would you not know your grandmother's name, no one ever talked about it? But if they died 40 years ago I guess it would be so. I was a lucky granddaughter, we were the only ones that lived near my grandparents when I was young, I used to spend time out on the farm with them. My grandfather Marion liked to sit outside and shoot moles making their hills he was a trapshooter, (nowadays, you would get the cops out there) and somedays he came inside and played his fiddle all afternoon. I only had one song that was taped that he did. Now I wish we had made tapes of all of them. My grandmother was really something, she worked so hard in her life. She cooked and baked, worked in their large garden, sewed and crotcheted, took care of chickens. Gina Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Aunt Nellie died in 2002, she was 101. There was Elsie Miller that I believe they visited, who died a few years ago was related to our family, but not Acie Miller her husbands line of Millers. She was related to the Ford/Miller and McDaniel families of mine. She wrote a book I have a copy of on the McDanials/McDaniels. Katherine Litsey Woosley was related to the Millers, from Sarena Miller's line. Sarena was a sister in law to Delilah House Miller. Aunt Edna died of cancer in 1986, she was 74. There is one sister left in the G. A. Miller family of 11 children, 2 boys and 9 girls. My grandfather Marion was born in Caneyville in 1908, some of his siblings were born in KY and some in Oregon but not how most would be, these were a few in OR a few in KY, a few in OR again. One of his siste! rs died after he was born in 1908, Ada V. Miller when she was 8 years old, I seem to remember being told that she had a bad heart, I may be wrong. I wanted to check to see where she was buried, I have not found as yet Ada Vitula Miller(b. 3/5/1900-10/14/1908). I will look for a letter I have of the visit, it is a kind of short journal of the trip, I know it has some names in it, she talks about the food they ate and things they did. My aunt was quite a writer, but she never got to finish her genealogy research before she died. I was given alot of her papers that have helped me in my own. I believe one of the other House girls, a sister to Bud's dad was related to the Embry family as well, I would have to check. There are some families there in Grayson co. that everyone seems to have in their fam. trees if they have been there since way back, we are connected to quite a few. The Millers/McDaniels first came to the county around 1810 from South Carolina, I have not found for certain where my Millers were from. Millers in KY and Jones in TN are my lot. There may be more of early Jacob Miller's line around there, I have not been able to find more on all the children. There are so many Millers and it is hard to go way back, especially when wills and other old records are hard to come by for this area from the courthouse fires. I know my Wade Singleton Miller, Delilah's son stated that the only record of his marriage in 1868 at Leitchfield was a bible record, as the records burnt. He married Sabra E. McSherry. She was related to the Baird family that Bardstown, KY was named for in Ohio Co. Gina Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
