There had been, at least, a boundary dispute followed by unfriendly acts exchanged between the parties. GGrandpa ended up dying/dead in a ditch, where his son [can't remember which one] stayed with him ?all night? Coates was tried, found guilty, and did some number of years in prison. No love was lost between the Harris boys and the Coates boys. Once old Will got out, at some point, three Harris boys including my grandpa, are rumored to have burned down the Coates' barn then left Kentucky for Illinois on a permanent basis. I have a detailed account dictated by a cousin shortly before his own passing. I will try to find time to dig it up and send it along -- I'm stretched for time right now, but I'll try flag this so I get back to it. Still looking for Alex's grandpa. 3. Yes it is; there was a lot of discussion about it when it was posted at the exact same time to KYBOURBO list. However, spam filters are not 100% perfect. This one wasn't caught at all, because of the way it was posted. However I'm sure our List Mom could tell you they they receive dozens of emails a week that they have to look at to "approve or deny" if it can be posted -- and the filters that set aside the messages for them to look at aren't 100%. These people that spam, it is their job to find a way around any barrier to them for group posting. So yes, it was inappropriate for this list but it has been dealt with by many angry folk from all the other KY genealogy lists he posted to at the same time. As a mailing list we have been blessed by how active the list has been for helping people with very few negative things like this coming through.
