Author: ldrbelties Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kentucky.counties.grayson/9710.4/mb.ashx Message Board Post: There are three cemeteries that I know of in Big Clifty KY, itself. There is Petty Cemetery, Cedar Hill Cemetery and the Catholic Cemetery (I'm not sure if it goes by another name or not). All three are situated right beside each other - if you don't know the layout, you'd never know that it was three - you'd think it was one big cemetery. I have come records from the three cemeteries - many of my husband's family are buried there. I have pictures that I took a few years ago of the actual lots in Cedar Hill, but I've not made any attempt to locate the burial locations of anyone other than our immediate family. I do have more pictures that I need to send to Bill Vincent to be posted - I never seem to get caught up. 3. Hello, Kay, There are six pages of names for the Little Clifty Baptist Churchyard Cemetery (NW from Leitchfield on Little Clifty Church Road in Grayson County, KY). They are located in "Grayson County, Kentucky Cemeteries" - Volume I, pages 153 - 158, published by Grayson County Historical Society in 1994. There is a revised version underway that is already available now or should be available soon. Let me know what names you are interested in and I will pull that information for you. I am not sure that I have it named correctly, but in my records I have 'Little Clifty Cemetery' in Big Clifty. It is a Church cemetery near Horntown. Another cemetery is Petty Cemetery in Big Clifty. It is near the water tower in Big Clifty. As I recall, there is another cemetery adjacent to Petty, but I don't have the name for that. Little Clifty Cemetery is located on SR 1168 (?Summit Rd) between SR 720 and SR 224 on the South side of the road. It is closer to SR 224. I can not give exact directions to Petty Cemetery, but if you see the water tower and can figure out how to get there, you can't miss the cemeteries. I asked for directions at the local bank. I don't research the GIBSON surname, but I do have a few in my records that married into my GOLLADAY line. They are: Orville GIBSON who married Blanche GOLLADAY. Their children - Bertie, Delores, Carolyn, Jean, Ruth, Marilyn. Blanche was my grandfather's sister. She was the daughter of John Anderson and Mollie (PHILLIPS) GOLLADAY. I do not have burial information for Orville and Blanche. John Turner GIBSON who married Sarah Ellen GOLLADAY. I have no children for them. Sarah was a GGG-Aunt to me. She was the daughter of Frederick Augusta and Mary (PEARSON) GOLLADAY. I have Sarah's death as 1936 in Childress Co., TX, burial in Childress. I have no parent information for Orville or John Turner GIBSON. For anyone else who might be reading this, can you tell me the correct name for the Methodist Church Cemetery near Horntown? Has it always been a Methodist Church? For some reason, I was thinking it might have been a Baptist Church at one time. Author: tenpinb Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kentucky.counties.grayson/9701.3.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello Jesse again!, Well, after I sent the first post a little while ago, I went to family trees on Ancestry.com and found this information someone put on there. It is very detailed info on the Ellisons. I was right, Akis and Catherine were Elizabeth's parents. Here is what I found: ID: I0256 Name: Akiss Ellison Sex: M Birth: in North Carolina Death: 1835 in MUhlenburg, Co. Death: 1835 in MUhlenburg, Co. Death: 1835 in MUhlenburg, Co. Note: Akiss was a Rev War Soldier & served in the War of 1812 in Henderson Ky in the marriage record for Akiss & Catherine Rightmer, Ellison is spelled Allison. I have followed this all the way & I know they are the same. The records I found in the basement of Muhlenberg Co Courthouse, names each of the children of Akiss & Catherine & names John P(living away from home & married). It seems that Akiss had lost everything he owned & was about to lose the homeplace where the family lived. The fight was to keep it for the family & they won. There is a transaction where Akiss was borrowing money & Jesse Ellison (my g-father) signed the note. Marilyn MYC: I have circuit records showing the settlement of Akiss estate-naming John P Ellison as complanant & Catherine & children as defendants. They won the suit & kept the homeplace-settled-Nov 14,1845. Names children:Wm. Ellison,Mary Ann,Isaac Bodine,Franklin,Elizabeth, & Francis Angeline. I believe these children to be those of Akiss & catherine Rightmer since they married in 1816. Do you know when C. Roark died? John P b-Jan 9,1819 d-Aug 24,1896 md-Mary Ellen Grundy(dau of Wm &Ruth Osborn Grundy) children:Martha A. md L.E. Almon, Rufus Ellison, Nancy E, Thomas C Ellison md Emma Pearl Shacklett Wm. C. On a deed from Jesse Ellison to Allen Ellison, his son, it was spelled both ways on the same deed. MC(May, 1997): Jeff, On the Ellison subject--I believe Akiss married Caherine Roark & had Nancy(according to Rob Roark-no marriage record found) & this Catherine may have died & he md Catherine Rightmer in 1816 & had the other children. Akiss lived in Logan Co for a time & will look there for the record. My source for Akiss--Muhlenberg Co Circuit Records that I found in the basement of the courthouse in some old records. The records talk about a court suit with John P. Ellison as Plaintiff & his mother, Catherine & brothers & sisters under age as defendants. They were about to loose the farm after the death of their father because of money owed & John P. claims that he had paid it. They won the suit & kept the farm. It lists-John P.--Catherine Ellison, William Ellison, Mary Ann Ellison, Isaac Ellison, Franklin Ellison, Elizabeth Ellison, Francis A. Ellison-heirs of Akiss Ellison. I write to Bill Bozic of Texas, who is descendant of Isaac Bodine Ellison. He tells me that after 1850, his grandfather, Isaac & his sister & her family moved from Sacramento, Ky to Texas. The sister was Dorcea md Erastus Smith & lived next to Catherine in the 1850 census. I believe the 2 Catherine Ellison's are the same iin the 1850 census & may have moved. In the early 1800 census (before Akiss married Catherine Rightmer) he is listed in the census with children & so some of the other Ellison people may be his children. In the 1850 census Ellison, Catherine 50 f Va Farmer $600 Benjamine 30 m Ky -Franklin could be Franklin Benjamine F.A. 16 Ky -would be Francis Angeline md John Noffsinger Mary A. 22 -Mary Ann Elizabeth -is listed in records J.B. -could be I.B. - Isaac Bodine Ellison Father: Jesse Ellison Mother: Anne ? Author: tenpinb Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kentucky.counties.grayson/9701.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, Well, I did some searching through census records and believe I found Elizabeth's parents. I found, on the 1850 census, Pendelton living in Muhlenberg County, District 2, with, who I assume is his parents, Winston and Abigail Beck. Also in Muhlenberg County, District 2, was Elizabeth Ellison, born 1832. She only had a mother, Catherine Ellison, 50 years old. I looked on the 1840 census and Catherine was listed as the head of the household then also. I then looked on the 1830 census and the only Ellison that was there, that wasn't on the 1840, was Akis Ellison. Akis was also listed on the 1820 Muhlenberg County census. So, I believe Akis and Catherine are the parents of Elizabeth. There was something very interesting on the 1850 census. Catherine Ellison was listed twice. The first listing was taken 15 Aug 1850. Caterine was listed as 50, born in Vir. She had living with her Benjamin 21, Mary A. 22, J.B. 22, F.A.[female] 16, and Elizabeth 18 all born Ky. The second listing was taken 5 Sep 1850. Catherine was listed as 50, born in Ky.and living with her was Benjamin 21 and Frances A. [female] 16. The others were not there. I am thinking Pendelton and Elizabeth were married between those 2 dates. The census with Pendelton was taken 7 Sep 1850 and Elizabeth is listed directly under his name on the census as 19 years old! On the second listing, taken in September, the Ellisons and the Becks are 2 pages apart. Why Mary A. and J.B. Ellison were not on the second listing, I don't know. About Akis, on the 1830 they have his name, in the index, as Akip. But, if you look at the image the S can be mistaken for a P. The S, at that time, when written, looked like a small F the way we write it today. And, any slip of the pen would make it look like a P. So, if you look on the 1830 census, look for Akip. I'm not sure about her still having relatives in Ky., I didn't search that far. I'm not related to the family in any way, just doing some searching for you.
