    2. Teresa Carter
    3. Bonnie, Nothing on an Otho Ashcraft at all, most of it is about the decsendents of James Richard Ashcraft, which went out west. All I have on Eleanor Clark is that she married William Mountjoy Ashcraft, same date as you have. I did however find a teeny reference to Sarah Ashcraft's hubby James Clark among my Steers info. I know it's not much, but if Eleanor was related to James you may find something on her through him. This is what's there. In Grant Co Ky Marriage Bind Book 1860-1865, pg. 116: James Steers and James Clark, 20 Oct 1861, her name is mary E. Clark( signed James M. Steers,James Clark) In Marriage register Book, 24 Oct 1861, James M. Steers & Mary E. Clark: married at Jas. Clark's house: Witnesses: Wm M. Ashcraft, Wm Steers and Jacob Ashcraft "Grandpa" (William Henry) Steers, in his writing to D.S., typed by Clara Wayne Steers, her name is Mary Ellis Clark. In the Grant Co Ky 1850 census, in James Clark's household is Mary E, age 8. Teresa

    3. Hi Bonnie, I really appreciate all the work you and Sandra have done over the weekend. I didn't get a chance to answer earlier since my oldest son was working on spreading his wings to leave the nest. I plan to generate a report for William Harrison Sipple and Nancy Ashcraft and post it to the list tonight. There was also a request for info on Garrett Sipple and Mary Calvert which I will post on the GHOTES and Lower Delmarva lists. 1. [KYGRANT-L] Williams & Crook
    2. Sandy, Bonnie & Joy I wrote an E-mail yesterday to someone seeking info on the Williams line from Grant Co., but AOL tells me it did not go thru so will try again. I have a little data on the Williams line because my triple great grandfather Jeremiah Crook married Jane Williams in Charles Co., MD in 1782. Shortly after they moved to Grant Co., (Bourbon then, I think), because oldest son John was born there circa 1785. Jane had a brother Bennet who served in the Rev. War with Jeremiah and we think he moved to Grant Co. with the Crook's. I note, Sandy, that you found the marriage of Jesse Crook to Susan Williams in your data - Jesse was my double great. Also Jeremiah's 2nd son Robert married Elizabeth Williams in Pendleton Co. in 1811. A fellow Crook researcher has a lot of references to Williams' in Maryland, because he also had Williams connections in his line. Unfortunately, he passed away last fall and all lhis data is still "tied up" in his computer. I have not pursued the Williams line much because I've been super busy building a Crook family Data Base that now contains over 16,000 individuals. Plus I get constant E-Mails seeking Crook references. I can appreciate how much work it must be for you all to answer so many inquiries. I have over a 1000 references for Crooks but have tried not to stray too far on allied lines. To be in my data base you have to have been born a Crook, married a Crook, or been adopted by a Crook. I correspond with several dozen Crook researchers, but so far I am the only one pursuing the Grant Co., KY line. I have most of the descendants of the Jesse Crook who married Susan Williams, but have only limited info on the other 9 children in Jeremiah's family. He surely left a will in Grant Co., but so far have not been able to locate one. He died in 1834 and his widow Jane moved to Missouri. However, son Robert stayed in Grant Co. and remarried in 1825 to a Nancy Anderson - or was it a son who married Nancy? Anyway, I'm willing to help on the Williams line and access my Crook data base for anyone pursuing that line. I've been trying to get back to Grant Co. for several years, but something always comes up. Millard L. Crook mlcrook777@aol.com 15 Circle Drive Mulvane, KS 67110

    1. Re: [KYGRANT-L] Re: County Records
    2. Your most welcome, Teresa, will you see if you have any information about the parents of Elenore Clark born July 23, 1807; she married William Mountjoy Ashcraft on February 2, 1828. They had a least one daughter, Susannah June Ashcraft born 1829, she married William A. Clark. What I am trying to discover is the connection between Elenore Clark and the Howe family. Elenore and William Mountjoy Ashcraft are buried in a small cemetery on the Howe family homestead. This farm has been in the Howe family for over 300 years. It is now owned by my daughter, Monica, and her husband Steve Howe. I would like to put together information for them and their sons, Boston and Lincoln. So, if you or anyone else reading this, has any information, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks, Bonnie

    1. Re: [KYGRANT-L] Lookups
    2. Hi Sandra, Boy, we sure got a workout yesterday! I just love finding things for people! Send me the volume #'s you don't have and I will order those first. I am posting this on the list for two reasons, maybe the information will help someone else and maybe someone will see something familiar and help me. O. K., One of my biggest blocks is my gg grandfather, James Austin Webb. I can't for the life of me discover who his parents were. All records I have seen, has him listed as being born in Tazewell, Virginia. I have his birth as Oct. 29, 1819 and death as Oct. 14, 1891. These dates are from cemetery records and a very strange obit. James was in Pulaski County, at least by 1848, as he marries Lucinda Meece there on Oct. 18, 1848. I don't know if he had been there any length of time or was just passing through and decided he needed a wife. He and Lucinda are in Grant County by 1850 as they show up on the census there. They had the following children: Joseph Webb born about 1851 married Lizzie? I need birth, marriage, children, death James Madison Webb born Nov. 28, 1853 - I need marriage, children, death Franklin Pierce Webb born April 25, 1856 married Nettie? - I need marriage, children, death Tennessee Belle Webb born Jan. 8, 1859 married Martin Mann July 19, 1877. She died Jan. 5, 1881, probably in childbirth. They had two children, Fred born abt. 1881 and Charles born Aug. 16, 1878. The boys were raised by their Webb grandparents -I need descendants. Augusta Virginia Webb born about 1862 married a Mr. Kinney/Kenny? - I need birth, marriage, death, children. Harriet "Hattie" Webb born April 19, 1868 married Jefferson Hutchinson. Harriet and Jefferson had at least two children, Webb and Nola. I think Webb Hutchinson married Hattie Maude Elliott and I think Nola married ? Sydnor. Hattie died Jan. 29, 1904, as the result of a lamp that she attempted to blow out exploded and she was engulfed in flames. What a tragic thing! - I need marriage, information about the children. John Samuel Webb born 1864 married Catherine "Kate" Marks May 18, 1881 in Grant Co. He died June 30, 1936 in Grant Co. - I need birth date and children Sarah "Sallie" Webb, (twin) born abt 1870 married Walker Atkins May 4, 1898 in Grant County. - I need birth, death, children Mary Elizabeth "Mollie" Webb (twin) born abt 1870 married Clarence Nimrod Ashcraft July 24, 1891 in Grant Co. - I need birth and death Cora Eliza Webb born April 5, 1871 married Otho Stanley Ashcraft July 31, 1895. She died March 23, 1905. These are my g grandparents. What I would like to know is when Otho Stanley married his second wife, Ollie Stevens, it was probably about 1908, there was a mention in the Barton Papers that they had a daughter who died young, I would like to know about her. I think my only hope of discovering James Austin Webb's parents is through a living descendant who might know. There were several Webb's in the area during James and Lucinda's life time, most of who game from N. C., a very well documented family. I don't know what, if any, connection this has with my Webb family but James Austin and Lucinda had to go to Grant County for some reason. I think there was an Augustus Webb also living in the area at that time and somewhere I think I saw that he was from Virginia. Maybe if I discover who his parents were and where he came from, that will link me to James Austin's parents. Well, I didn't mean to write a novel. Thanks to all, I will appreciate any help! I have a couple of other elusive ancestors but this is the one that is most perplexing, it isn't like I am trying to find someone in the 16th century, but it may as well be! Have a great day, Bonnie

A Henry Miller in Harrison . this last entry is from her first volume and seems to be the only one that fits as Henry Milner but after reading some of these names, I think they were mentioned else where. 3. <Judie, I think everyone in Grant Co in 1860 knew everyone, (grin) so many Beach marrying Sipples and Jumps and Websters.> And don't forget the News... I saw a joke recently: Kentucky, land of 500,000 people and 15 last names. Right on! It is really nice to see the list come alive like this... Judie in beautiful Oregon where it has been 78 and wonderful.
