    3. Judie, I asked the same thing, my cousin told me that the groom and who ever vouched for him was required to post a bond in case the wedding didn't occur, due to the groom being less than honest about any past wifes, ect, ect, ect. Cool concept though huh? If you weren't as honest about your past as you claimed, the state would collect $100.00, which was alot of money back then. I'd say it payed to tell the truth!!!lol Teresa

    2. Hi Everyone, I bought a CD yesterday that is just fantastic! I was told about it by Ben Benson. It is called Travel Maps USA by Cosmi. It cost $9.95 and can be purchased at Walmart. Now you are probably wondering what is so great about it. WELL, say you are looking for little tiny roads in Grant Co. keep zooming in and they appear, now that is a wonderful feature in itself, BUT WAIT, THAT'S NOT ALL (kinda reminds me of a gensu, how ever you spell it, knife), you zoom again and low and behold, cemetery locations appear! Names and locations! Even this very tiny Clark Cemetery on my daughter and son-in-laws property. I think there are only about six graves there! It does this in any state, any county! What a bargain! Well that all for now, Take care Bonnie

    2. To the ladies doing the lookups: How generous you have been with your time. From the bottom of my heart, thank you very much. If you have time, I'd like to know if there is any information on the Corbin family. I know so very little. I'm looking for Amy Corbin (b. probably before 1810) who married Michael Lewis Buskirk (b. 1805 in Bourbon Co., KY) on Mar 4, 1828 in Grant Co., KY. Amy is listed as Coleson in the marriage record, I believe. Amy had a brother named Wash (probably Washington) who had a famous race horse named Ham Boy when he lived in Quincy, IL. Both Amy and Michael died in 1882 in Adams Co., IL. I'd like to know who her parents are. One of the ladies cited some books on marriages in Harrison Co. I'd like to know how to buy them. And I'd like to know if there is a marriage for Elijah Bailey and Susannah Edwards, most likely around 1835 or 1836. Also if there is any marriage records for their daughters Eleanor (b. abt 1837), Martha A. (b. abt 1838) and Susannah (b. abt 1849). I'm very grateful to you. Virginia

    2. Ashcraft, According to my files there were two Robert Ashcraft's of approximately the same age, living in Grant Co. The one in question, Robert William, married his cousin, Catherine Cook, after the death of his wife and infant son. The cousin connection is through the Wortman line. Robert William's mother was Elizabeth Wortman, Catherine's mother was Elizabeth's sister, Rachel Wortman. My files say that Robert William was living at 2024 Eastern Ave., Covington, Kenton County, Kentucky when he died April 22, 1908. I must, somewhere in all my messy files have his death certificate. But it is easily obtained. The other Robert Ashcraft of the same age was Robert Harrison, he was married to Elizabeth Ann Race. Hope this helps, Bonnie

    3. I know speak for all of us doing lookups, it is gratifying when someone finds something need I wish I could just start typing this books from start to finish. We do have to worry about copy rights. Doing lookup are usually ok but we really need permission say "to list all the births". Linda just got permission for us to post an article I have on the New Family from the Grant County Paper. Some of you have asked about researcher in the Grant Co area. I really don't know of any but one of the best things I did was join the Grant County Historical Society. It cost only $5.00 per year which includes a quaterly newsletter that oftn has family histories in them. Also info on how to get the books I am posting from. 3. Someone wrote inquiring about the two Robert Ascrafts one with Martha and one worth Cathy/ a year later. Somehow I lost the message. But I think I know the question. It is possble that Martha and baby died and Robert remarried very soon . It is also possible that there were two Robert Ashcrafts in the county. Please note that one has an H. I personally have no way of knowing just typing the info but it is not unusal to have two to three people in same county with same name. That is why we it is important to compare records. In this case my suggestion would be to look at the 1860 census and see if these two Robert Ashcrafts are there with these wives and children. There maybe deaths published somewhere, I don't have them. Remember the state was not required to keep them until years later. The fact that we have these is very fortunate. Somewhere in the middle of all the info thats been coming through this list, I found another cousin ( Hi Judie!!) from the tiny bit of info I had on James Clark that I posted in hopes of helping Bonnie. Just goes to prove the teeniest thing can be that piece of the puzzle you need. Teresa

    3. Sandra, Re the births below, Vol. VI, page 1 shows a male child born to Robert Ashcraft and Martha Turner 2 Jan 1852. Apparently the infant died soon after birth and Martha. Do the records show deaths and if not, wonder where one would obtain this information? He later married Catherine Cook and another child is shown on on Page 11 as a white female b 11 July 1853.
