Bonnie, Thanks so much for looking. Va
Hi all, My cousin emailed me a marrige bond thingy from the Rootsweb Archive, it's for Henry Ashcraft and Nancy King. Thought someone else might like to have it, but wanted to check before I forward it on to the list. Teresa
Judie and Bonnie, Did I miss something? Who are they? Teresa
Debby and Bonnie: I haven't figured it out yet either. It is most distressing that it doesn't have the Williamstown Cemetery listed. Hi Janice, This you're lucky day!!! I found the death record for Martha Turner Ashcraft!!! DEATHS, 1852 January 7, 1852 - Martha Ashcraft, age 21; married; parents, James & Sarah Turner; residence, Grant Co.; place of birth, Campbell Co., Ky.; place of death, Eagle Creek, Grant Co. Janice, it doesn't say what the cause of death was, but I feel it is safe to assume that it was complications of child birth. Now you know where she was born and you know the Sarah on the census was her mother! Since she was born in Campbell Co., I would start looking there. Good luck to you! Bonnie
Hi Debby, No, I didn't know that you can get a print-out of the cemetery! Would be wonderful if true! But, I kind of doubt it. If you click on the little cross it will tell you where the cemetery is located. Dr. Ben Benson is the one to ask. He posts to this list so hopefully he will see your query and let us know. Take care, Bonnie
Hi Judie, The only ones I remember are Elenore Clark and her husband, William Montjoy Ashcraft. I know there are others, I'll ask my daughter for you. May take a couple of days, she is always on the go! Take care, Bonnie
Sandra, I wrote re the Robert Ashcraft being married to Martha Turner and Catherine a year later. It was Robert W. Ashcraft and the question was regarding a recorded date for Martha Turner's death or where one could find such. Rosetta Ashcraft was there only living child, my g-grandmother, and on the 1860 Grant Co census she is living w/her father and his 2nd wife, Catherine, plus their four children. Rosetta Ashcraft married R. N. Morehead in 1868. Their children were Edgar, Oden and Ida (my grandmother). On the 1870 census Richard Morehead, Rosetta, Edgar and a Sarah Turner, age 74, are shown. Sarah was possibly her grandmother. By the 1880 census, the children are living w/relatives as both parents died. Finally, my question - how can I find out what happened to Richard N. Morehead and Rosetta Ashcraft Morehead and would their children be recorded in the books of county records since they were orphaned? I have corresponded w/Bonnie Snow re this. Hi All, I have the cd also. I have not been able to get a layout of a cemetery either. All I have come up with is that you can click on the cemetery name and it will give you location info and some other numbers. If I come across anything, I will post it. Carolyn
For those who want to know: A BONDSMAN is 'a person, sometimes referred to as a surety, who pledges a sum of money as bond for another'. This is the definition in "A TO ZAX, A Comprehensive Dictionary for Genealogists & Historians" by Barbara Jean Evans, published 1995 by Hearthstone Press. As for marriage bondsman, it can be a family member (almost always male) or friend. It is not unlike a bail bondsman. In the case of marriage bondsman, the bondsman 'swears' on potential loss of bond money before the county court that the persons wanting to get married are indeed who they say they are and that they are legally able to be married. If the opposite is the case, the bondsman is to come forth with the bond money. If you have ever seen an original marriage bond, you will see that a sum of money is mentioned. Ben in Ft. Worth, TX
Bonnie - can you say any more about the six Clark graves? Thanks for the tip on the CD - I'm going to town on Friday and I'll stop by Walmart! Judie in Oregon where it is 78 and sunny
