Bonnie and whoever - if Eleanor Clark was buried on Howe land, there must be a connection further back, don't ya think? Judie who is having a difficult morning...
Bonnie, and anyone else... The grandson is John Riffle Clark. The Riffle's lived next door...maybe James' wife was a Riffle?????? More to be investigated. The child after James Clark is my ancestor, Ely Clark.
Greetings, Cousins. I hope everybody had a good holiday. Here is a Family Group Sheet for James Clark. I have one line from his son Ely to the present if anyone wants it. The Family Group information came from his will (Grant County KY Will Book B, page 412) and Grant County Census lists. Wish I had more...wish I could spend a week in Grant County...if wishes were horses, beggars would ride!
Looking for anyone out there who might be researching the Burns family in Grant County. The group I'm interested in includes my g-g-g grandfather David Burns, his wife, Margaret Franks Webster, their son (my g-g-grandfather) George, his son Slyvestor. The other Burns family members include Cornelius, James, Lonnie, Mary, Thomas. Most inhabited Grant County in the 1800s and early 1900s. Thanks, Terry Burns cnsburns@aol.com

Karen: In your Hutchinson (Hutchison) family, do you have a James Hutchison, b. ca. 1809 in KY, married to a Catharine Ransom, b. ca. 1807 in NC. Residence in 1850 was in Grant Co., KY. James would probably be of the generation of Hiram and Lucinda Hutchinson. Ben Karen wrote: > > I'am looking for information on the following Familys > > Annie C. COULD HER NAME BE ELIZABETH OR MAUD WELLMAN WALKER
Hi Pat, Feel free to join in ANY conversation! That's what it's all about! And thanks for your generous offer, I just might take you up on it. Take care, Bonnie
Hi Judie, You aren't confused I a was. I misread what you said you had; for some strange reason I translated "probate" to estate, go figure! I think I may have made that error because you didn't mention Eleanor Ashcraft and she was the first of James Clark's children mentioned in his will. I wasn't researching the Clark line; now I am. My daughter's husband descends from them. His father sent me information from their family Bible; a copy of the will a deed from William Mountjoy Ashcraft to his and Eleanore Clark's only chid, Susannah. Susannah Ashcraft married William A. CLARK! Do you or Teresa know who his parents were! I sure would like to know how he fits in, obviously a relative. Susannah Jane Ashcraft was born 2/23/1829 died April 29, 1902 William Clark was born Dec. 2, 1825 died Nov. 28, 1880 Their children were: Elizabeth James M. - married Isabella Vanhook Telitha Armilda America Martha W. - married Luther Cash, June 19, 1881, (The line I am tracing) Ida Jane Sarah - married Isaac Tomlin, 2/27/1901 (this is the Tomlin connection for this line) John W. The only dates I have for the children of James Clark are: Eli - about 1812, married Mary Elizabeth Draper James Clark - married Sarah Ann Ashcraft (she was the daughter of Jacob Ashcraft and Sally Norton) Eleanor Clark - born May 29, 1809, married William Mountjoy Ashcraft born July 23, 1807; married Feb. 2, 1828. (William Ashcraft was the youngest brother of my ancestor, James Richard Ashcraft) So here is how my son-in-law's line goes (I think!) James, Eleanor, Susannah Ashcraft Clark, Martha W. Clark Cash, their daughter Ida married Carl Grant Bennett, their daughter, Katherine, married Harry Howe. These are Steve's grandparents. The copy of the will I have has one of the children cut off, could you tell me what that child's name is? It is the child in paragraph two before James Clark. Also, I want to know if the grandson is John Riffle Clark? I'm not sure about the first name. I haven't figured out the Riffle connection yet. I have a few Riffles in my data base but very little about them. Yes, this is the same Eleanor that is buried on my daughter and son-in-laws property. Well that's about it for now! Looking forward to hearing from you, hope you have some answers! You didn't mention if you knew who James Clark, Sr.'s wife was or who were his parents. I don't know but it seems to me I saw "Lucinda" mentioned as the wife of James, but for the life of me, I can't find it now! Bonnie

Bonnie - I am confused, as usual. Why do you want me to send you a copy of James Clark's will when you got one in the mail yesterday? I didn't know you were researching this line - I thought it was just Teresa and me. Do you have the census for him or would you like me to send what I have? Do you have any birthdate for his children? What are your sources for Susannah? How do the Riffles fit into this? I Is this the same Eleanor that is buried on your daughter's property? Can you post the Ashcraft stuff? Are you descended from Eleanor? I am descended from Ely and his wife's name is Mary Elizabeth, not Elizabeth. So many questions...so few answers. <G> Judie in beautiful Oregon
Judie and Bonnie: Excuse me for butting into your conversation, but I may be able to shed some light on the Riffle family. My brother-in-law, James W. Riffle, was raised in Covington KY but had family roots in Cordova, (Grant County), KY. His maternal grandmother's last name was Walker; his mother's name was Edna Mae ? Riffle and I don't remember his father's first name. Hopefully, we will be in Corinth KY the end of this month. If you need something checked out, let me know by mid-month. Pat Greener57@aol.com
Bonnie - I have a copy of James Clark's probated in the May Term, 1844. Grant County KY Will book B p.412. Send me a snail mail addy and I will send you a copy. He does not mention his wife so she probably died before 1844? His estate was divided equally between: James Clark, Ely Clark, Louisa Buskirk, and Wm. G. Clark's children James Jesse Clark, John Riffle Clark, and Elizabeth Jane Clark. So, Susannah died w/o issue? Who were the Riffles? There is a Kitty Clark listed as head of household in the 1840 census. Teresa is descended from the son, James Clark and wife Sarah. What exactly do you have? Judie
I have that James Clark married Sarah Ashcraft, daughter of Jacob and Sally Norton. Jacob Ashcraft was the son of Jediah Ashcraft, and brother of my James Richard!
Hi Judie, I am going to enclose you the will of James Clark; just received it yesterday! James Clark was obviously the father of Eleanor Clark who married William Mountjoy Ashcraft. I would vary much like to have what ever data you have and will send you a copy of this will, if you don't have it. It will take me some little while because the copy I have has been reproduced to legal size and I can't duplicate it on my computer. Here is what it say's: February 28 ad 1844 In the name of God Amen. I James Clark of the County of Grant and state of Kentucky being weak in body, but of sound mind and disposing mind blessed be Almighty God for the same do make and ordain this my last will and testament in [?] and form following viz. After my death, I will that my body be buried in a Christian like manner, and that my just debts be paid. And furthermore I will whatsoever of my personal or real estate I may die possessed of may be equally divided between my children that survive named ELEANOR ASHCRAFT, Wm G. Clark's children my grandchildren I desire them to have their father's part, Eli Clark, James Clark, Louisa Buskirk. I also will and desire that my son James Clark take the part of my grand children that is Wm Clark's children named by James Jesse Clark, John Riffle Clark, Elizabeth Jane Clark and keep until they are of age, and then account to them in money with six percent from the time within James Clark gets possession of their parts. Attest his Lemford A. Theobald } James X Clark { seal } William P. Thomas } mark Commonwealth of Kentucky Grant County The foregoing Will and testament of James Clark was produced in Court at the May Term 1844, proven by the oaths Wm P Thomas and L. A. Attests Wm Smith clerk On February 6, 1847, William Mountjoy Ashcraft was appointed administrator for the Estate Settlement of James Clark. Source: Probate Abstracts from Grant County, Book C, Page 40. So, here is the connection to the Ashcraft family! Wills usually listed the oldest child first. Elanore being the oldest. She and William Mountjoy Ashcraft only had one child, Susannah Jane Ashcraft; they had several children. I will be more to happy to send you a copy of this will; please send me your address. I also happily accept your generous offer! My address is: Bonnie Snow 5609 Von Ave. # D Monee, Illinois 60449
