We ahve numerous lines in the Pendleton, Harrison, Grant Co. area since the early 1800s. I have been searching for 2 particular families in the 1870 census but had no luck with any index UNTIL last night. I found an index that alphabetizes surnames by county, apparently for the whole state. I am about 99% certain that I found them. I will list them first and then some entries for surnames that I have seen on these lists (County - Location - Page) Dotson BAKER (sp BAKERN in index) Grant - Crittenden-512 Louis Wolf-Campbell-Carthage-168 I would be very grateful to SKS who would look these up for me. Somes others that I found (* means it might connect with us): This group is all BAKER: William J.-Grant-Mt Zion - 553 *Thomas - Grant- Ciittenden - 507 John M. - Grant - Williamstown - 593 Daniel - Grant - Cordova - 500 Daniel - Grant - Flat Creek - 541 This group is DUNN: NOTE: Several branches of DUN went to Tipton Co., IN about this time. Hi Pat, Thanks we are really trying to make this a site where everyone contributes and therefore everyone benefits! I ran across this in my Ashcraft files this morning, I have no clue where I got it but it sure might be a clue for you; let me know! Dotson Thorp Baker was the son of Andrew Baker, who came first from Rockcastle, then from Menifee Co. Ky. He married Mary Ann Ashcraft. Take care, Bonnie

<< Do you have any information on a James Dunn born about 1768 in Harrison County, Married Keziah Harrison? >> Bonnie, Don't see these names anywhere. Sorry! Pat
Hi Pat, I don't know if you have this or not so just in case you don't: The 1900 census for Grant County lists the following: The census looks like G. W. Baker but I am pretty sure it is J.W. Baker. District #1, East Williamstown Prescient, Dwelling 260: J. W. Baker born July 1850 in KY, he was a farmer, married 21 years, he was unemployed 3 months, he could not read or write. He was renting a farm. Both his parents were born in Kentucky. His wife was Margaret, born Dec. 1861, she had 7 children all still living, she was born in Ohio, her father was born in Ohio, her mother was born in KY, she could read and write. Children: Leslie, son, born July 1882, he was a farm laborer, he was unemployed 9 months, he could read & write. Leora, born Oct. 1883, she was attending school and could read & write. Fred or Ford, born August 1885, attending school and could read & write. Lena, born Feb. 1890, attending school and could read & write. Raymond, born Oct. 1893 Blaine, son, born Feb. 1898 This family was living between J? Ashcraft, his wife Mahala, children, Walter, Martha, Elwood, and Henry. I don't have this family in my data base, do you know who they are? The other family was W. Clements, wife Mary, children, Hattie and Albert. Sherman Prescient, Dwelling # 35 Dotson Baker, born Dec. 1854, married 20 years, he and his parents born in KY, he was a farmer, had not been unemployed, owned with a mortgage. He could read & write. Dora, wife, born July 1860, she had 4 children, 3 living; she and her parents were born in Ky, she could read & write. Children: Eurina E, daughter, born August 1881, could read & write. Lewis F., born March 1883, could read & write, he was a farm laborer. Letha P., born February 1889, attending school. The interesting thing about this is Dotson and family were living next to my great uncle, Samuel J. Webb and his family and three dwellings from my great grandparents, Otho Ashcraft & Cora Webb Ashcraft. In between Otho and Samuel was Clarence Ashcraft & his wife, Mary Webb. Two dwellings past Dotson was the family of Charles York & his wife "Susie". Susie is the author of most of the letters I posted. This census is not index so I just happened to find these two Baker son's of Dotson. Hope this helps! Bonnie
Hi Pat, Do you have any information on a James Dunn born about 1768 in Harrison County, Married Keziah Harrison? Thanks! Bonnie
Hello, I am a newbie, and I am researching the Buckner name and trying to find other descendants of my ggg grandfather Thomas Jefferson Buckner. I believe he was born in KY and his wife was either named Laura Williams or Lucinda Williamson, she was born in TN. I know they had at least two children, Jesse James Buckner (who was also known as J.J. Buckner and James J. Buckner) born January 24,1869 in Caldwell County KY. The other son was Albert Mitchell Buckner born January 18, 1873 also in Caldwell County. For a reason unknown to me, J.J. Buckner was raised in Caldwell County, while A.M. Buckner was raised in TX. J.J. Buckner married Laura Lewis and they had the following children: Minnie, Robert, Weldon, Fred, Jennie, Ruth, Nellie, Maynard, and Jesse Lewis. A.M. Buckner married Mattie Elizabeth Byas and they had the following children: Dellos Urban, Ruby Mae, Marvin Obbie, and Herman Albert. I would greatly appreciate any help with my line of Buckners. Thank you, Tammye Campbell-Hobgood

Well, it seems as though we have flushed out our Linda! Good to hear from you, cousin. Apparently, she has been busy with new and 'old' grandkids and a family reunion. As I recall (my recollection ain't what it used to be!), she posted a great article from the Grant Co. News on the New family a few months ago. I'm sure I have it tucked away in my very disorganized files. If she doesn't mind, maybe we can work together and get that on the web site. I'll check with her and see if we can get something together. Cathy
Bonnie - thank you and thanks to your grandson!
Can anyone on the list give me any information on the following News: Robert New born 1712 died 1767 DE married 1st Eleanor ?? 2nd Mary Crumpton John New (son of Robert New) born 1729 DE married Mary Patience Hickman I am trying to prove that they are the ancestors of Jethro New born 20 Sep 1757 DE. Judie you are welcome! I sent Boston, a thank you card! Bless his little heart, he broke the ulna the radius bones at football practice this week, last year it was his femur; that was a terrible break, but he scored a touchdown! He is only eleven! Have a great evening one and all! Bonnie
I am glad you mentioned Linda Baker, I had written her and ask her about her New family but I have not heard from her. Do you know her. Iwonder if she would submit an outline on them. Let me know if you talk to her. Sandy, and list, Most of the names I have data on are in Pendleton Co. except for Sipple (Warren Duffie has provided this info, bless him for his patience with me) and New (Linda Baker provided a lot of that family's info). The Grant Co families that I don't have much on are Hall and Collins, who both married Sipples. Others that I have not worked very much on are Atha, Vaughn, and Judd. I think you and Bonnie have done a great job - the web site is wonderful, and I would love to contribute to it if I thought I had anything to offer. Maybe someday soon I will find those old bones I've been looking for! Picnics in cemeteries - did I tell you that? This is a joke in my family - we used to tease our dad that we were going to do that to him after he passed. Of course, we haven't. But we do still joke about it. Thanks for your message, Cathy
-Cathy and list: Cathy, I hope you don't mind me posting this to the list. My main surname is Groves and I am going crazy trying to find out more about my ggrandmother, Perlina Groves. She died in 1890 you wouldn;t think it would be that hard. But I was really talking about our Grant County WeB Site. We have gotten rid of the "fluff" and tried to make it easier to read. We would love to get as many families documented as possible. Our idea, and it has run into a few snags, is to let everyone post their Grant families. We will give you a page to put your research on. Cathy, you never told me who your line was. We would love for you to contribute it. We are trying to setup some guide lines: 1. no living persons and preferably ancestors born before 1920. 2. several people are researching the same family lines, so we need them to coordinate their data so we do not have duplicate pages. 3. Please state your sources if possible but if you do not have good sources, just say so. What Aunt Bertha said is still a good lead. I would love to have undocumented info on my most wanted. 4. Just type up your data the way you want it presented and we will paste to a page. Please remember HTML is not a word processor and being a novice, I cannot always make it look like what you sent but I am trying. Just keep it simple. If you want to change it, correct it or add to it later, just send us a corrected copy. I am getting real good and cut and paste. 5. We eventually want to do photographs, wills, pensions. We want Grant Co to be the best documented county in Kentucky and since everyone is contributing, it will technically belong to everyone who has ancestors from there. We are also trying to get cemeteries, marriages, deaths, births whatever Grant Co records we can compile. Pat Wolfe has suggested a wish list. Where we state our most wanted etc. So any ideas or help you can give us would be greatly appreciated. The copyright laws really throws a wrench in stuff so it is best that we go out and get original data or just use the facts (which cannot be copyrighted) So Cathy, since I am in New Mexico, if you want to rummage through the courthouse and have picnics in cemetaries to help us out. We will love you for it and give you lots of credit but most of all you can have a "Warm fuzzy feeling" Thanks so much to those who have already contributed: Jo Honeycutt, Pat Wolfe, Warren Duffie, Ben Benson, and so many others who have a work in progress. Sandy and Bonnie
Have been curious about your Nappy Milner. My great grandmother was Nanny Milner. She died very young at the age of 26, but have you ever heard of her? She was born in 1866 and died in 1892. Pat McEntee
I left my book at home but I do have info on Nappy who's real name is Bill, isn't it? I also have a Mary Polly Dunn too. I'll check it out and let ya know tomorrow. By the way, I am going to the Harrison C. library This weekend to find out more about Mary Polly Dunn.
