I'm not PROUD of it, but history always bored me to tears. Genealogy is a whole new arena...it's the history of PEOPLE and how their lives were affected by the times in which they lived. It's the history of MY people and my Mom's people and my Dad's people...covering virtually all parts of the WORLD...Netherlands, Dutch East Indies, Czechoslovakia, New York, New Jersey, Kentucky, Illinois, Louisiana, the Canary Islands...to name a FEW! 2. I love to read, crochet, tat, create miniature Christmas villages from plastic canvas, and I adore crossword and numerical puzzles. 3. I got hooked when my mother-in-law gave me her GARDNER Family Bible with birth records dating back to 1784...I HAD to know more. 4. They've simply grown more intense and determined. I've been at it for almost 40 years! 5. Every day more and more data becomes available on the internet...Virginia and the Netherlands are making staggering amounts of data available dating back centuries! Then, of course, we visit libraries, and the Mercer Co., KY court-house annex is a veritable GOLD MINE; historical societies, etc. I've also bought a number of books - autobiographies, etc. to assist in our research of people and their times. 6. Surprised? Oooh my goodness, time and time again! When I began to research I thought my father's and my husband's ancestry were French & Spanish Louisiana. What a revelation to discover that my father's grand-father had come to America from the Netherlands about 1865. My husband's immigrant ancestor ALSO came to America from the Netherlands...in 1637!!!! Good luck with your paper from an old bat.
