In the booklet, GARRARD COUNTY KENTUCKY RECORDS #1, WILLS 1796-1833 AND POTPOURRI by the late Joan Colbert Gioe and her Researchers Publications are numerous early KY. births including many to my BAKER ancestors in the late 1700s and early 1800s. To my horror, Gioe has listed NO sources for any of her information!!!!! I have gone to experts at the KY. History Center, The KY. Archives, and The Filson Society. All were familiar with her undocumented work, but had no clue as to where she found her info. I also have searched the Garrard Co. microfilm in the History Center and have asked the librarians in the Lancaster (Garrard) Library about the booklet ...all to no avail. This is one of more than 32 of Gioe's booklets re: KY. counties..NONE with sources, so the info is worthless as it stands. (They are still being sold, BTW.) We also have contacted her husband who says he does not know where she found her info, though he stated that he thought it was in Frankfort and likely on microfilm because she spent mnay hours at her microfilm reader. I am offering a $60.00 reward to anyone who is able to locate her original sources. UNdocumented genealogy = mythology! Elizabeth Kaspar My BAKER genealogy page: http://www.wiu.edu/users/mfeak/
Hi Elizabeth: Several years ago I went through exactly the same as you did, although you had better response from the husband. He was offended at my questions and shut me off with the statement that her information was good and didn't need sources, or something similar to that. Pretty much dismissed me and would not respond further. If you succeed in your offer, count me in. I will be happy to contribute cash to your reward. Keep my email address. :0) Karleene on the coast of Oregon a Perkins daughter (Garrard Co KY) ----- Original Message ----- From: E.A.
