Surnames: SMITH Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/xAB.2ACI/2132 Message Board Post: Does anyone have/or have access to the will and/or probate records for John Smith, born in Virginia @ 1775 and died in Garrard County, KY between 1850 and 1860 (wife named Frances/Francis)? John was alive and appears on the 1850 federal census, but on the 1860 federal census, Frances Smith is the head of the household. Also, on the 1850 census, John Smith listed property worth $4400; but on the 1860 census, that property appears to have been divided between his wife and children (who possibly include Peyton W. Smith and Hiram Smith -- please see next paragraph). My husband is decended from Peyton W. Smith (born in Garrard County, KY @ 1826) and his wife Frances West (through their oldest son John Thomas Smith, who moved to Texas in 1880, and died in Johnson County, TX in 1899). We think it is possible that Peyton W. Smith is the son of John and Frances Smith, but need to confirm that if at all possible. Any assistance would be most appreciated.
