I use Family Tree Maker. As for transfering your files.... You should be able to save all of your genealogical data as a generic GEDCOM file. GEDCOM is a format designed specifically for this task. Every genealogy software on the market today should be able to import the GEDCOM. Look for an EXPORT option in the FILE or TOOLS drop down menus of your software, then lok for EXPORT or SAVE AS GEDCOM. This will allow you to create the GEDCOM.
