Hi Rose, We haven't corresponded in a while, but I think you'll remember me. My husband is a descendant of Green SLAUGHTER, and we researched together as a group a while back. The mention of Cole YOUNGER in the emails caught my attention. My mother-in-law, Wanda, has told me several times that Green SLAUGHTER or others in the family had a connection to Cole Younger and that there was a possible name change sometime, but her recollection of the story is foggy. (As you may recall, Green SLAUGHTER moved to TN and changed his name to George SLAUGHTER. Wanda always thought that the name change took place with his surname, and that he was originally George GREEN. So for years I searched for GREEN information.) After Green "George" SLAUGHTER moved to TN, he marred Frances HOLLAND. Their first child was Nancy Ann SLAUGHTER b. 1870 in Humphreys Co, TN near Waverly. On 26 Jan 1886, Nancy Ann SLAUGHTER married G.S. ROWE. I don't know what became of G.S. ROWE. On 14 Jan 1890, Nancy Ann SLAUGHTER ROWE married Matt COLE in Humphreys Co, TN. This is the only record I can find with the name of Matt COLE. Bondsmen were Matt COLE and B.F. McCOLLUM. I have never found Matt COLE on any census record. Matt and Nancy Ann had one known child, Ruby COLE, b. 28 Nov 1890. I don't know what became of Matt COLE, but Nancy Ann married for a third time in 1896. The Cole YOUNGER connection supposedly comes in with Matt COLE, but this may be just a family tale. The ones who are left of Wanda's family are very tight lipped when it comes to anything in the past and know more than they would ever tell about anything to do with the family. Ruby COLE, the daughter of Matt and Nancy Ann, died in 1928. Matt COLE was listed as her father on her death certificate with his birthplace as TN. The information was taken from Central State Hospital records which is where Ruby died. Please keep this information in mind when you are doing your COLE and Cole YOUNGER research, and let me know if you ever find a possible connection. I also found that Frank James married Annie Ralston who is a granddaughter of Garrard Co. Reids. I'm wondering if the Fords in the area are related to the Ford who shot Jesse James? When the younger Hezekiah lived in Oklahoma's no-man's land, Cole visited him and had dinner either on the way to his hideout in the Black Mesa from a bank robbery, or on the way to a bank robbery. Do you know whether Cole Younger was related to Williamsonss in Scott Co? My husbands grandmother was the dau of Billy Williamson. She had a beother namd Cole Williamson and there was a rumor in the family that ther was a relation to the Younger brothers that were friends of Jesse James.
