Fern, Just saw your Buford Website for the first time.? You have done a wonderful job and I was so excited to check and see if you had information on Col. Thomas Buford, son of James Buford who gave the land for the town of Lancaster, Garrard County, Ky.? Thomas ran a tavern in this town and built several homes, one of which I believe to be the SALTER HOUSE in Lancaster.? I have a deed dated 1820 that states that Thomas Buford lived on this site.? There is also a early federal style brick building called Buford's Tavern in our town. Our local historical society has just opened the house and we would love to be able to purchase your book for our library.? We are very small and have very little money but have a ten year plan to make this house a museum and research library.? The house was given to Garrard County by the state of Kentucky.? Hopefully this will protect the home but the future of the tavern is not so secure.? More details later if you are interested.
