I just received my copy of Kathy Vockery's "Garrard Co Cemeteries"; what a wonderful book!!! It is very large, and costs $2.47 to mail, Media Mail rate - must weigh 2-3 pounds. Received only 12 days after I put check in the mail. All this, postage included, for $20.00. Can't believe the great value. It is sad, tho, to see how many old cemeteries can no longer be located. All those graves, dust to dust. And, even tho these graves are lost, a lot of information remains about some of the people buried and honored at one time with a stone of some sort. When we were there, it was difficult to find and if the fellow that took us up there hadn't known what he was about, we would have been lost. The cemetery at that time was fenced. The inside weeds and grass was much taller than those outside the fence. I guess I am curious, there is only a handful of graves there and most of them are Kennedy or Cook related. Are the Grayson's connected to either of those names. The Peter F Kennedy Cemetery is named after Peter Faulkner Kennedy, a brother to Samuel Finley Kennedy, our ancestor. We've been to Garrard County numerous times over the years and are looking forward to going again this fall. Christenia Grayson b: 29 Apr 1831 d: 24 Nov 1915 I went looking for this cemetery today, found it on private property and they asked if you'd call before you came on their land, but were very nice people. Have owned this land for years and years. The cemetery is overgrown so come prepared. The other directions I sent you are for another cemetery which is a couple of miles from this one, found out that was not the one you were looking for. Here is the owners phone# & directions to the cemetery: Call Glenna Castle @ 859 792-8320, she lives about a mile from the cemetery. Once you turn East on #39 from #27 just south of Lancaster, you go 6.8 miles then turn East(left hand turn) off Hwy#39 in Lincoln Co. onto "Old Fall Lick Rd." & this takes you back into Garrard Co. Then you go 2 miles to "Drakes Creek Rd." & turn right. Go about .3 miles and bear left. Go 7/10 of a mile & there's a post on the right side in front of a trailer that says "Castle Way". Turn right on this gravel road going past the trailer on the right, go through the rocky creekbed (is very low right now but may rise once we get some rain), go up the rocky bumpy dirt road & ignore the No Trespassing sign if you call her 1st. You'll see 2 trailers at the end of this gravel road, bear left at the 1st one & go up the hill to where the 2nd one is. Stop at one of these 2 back trailers & let them know you'd like to go to the cemetery. They said you can drive up there but is somewhat grown up with grass/weeds but not too far to walk if you're parked at the farthest trailer. The! cemetery is back behind that last trailer in a stand of trees on the right side of the open path. Hope this isn't too confusing, these directions are a little clearer than the 1st msg I sent, as that ended up being another cemetery about 2 miles away and I was just guestimating. If by some chance you can't get in touch with the lady and no one is home, just leave a note on the door at the last trailer telling them you're up at the cemetery. Kennedy, Peter F. Cemetery Garrard Co...Located near Old Richmond Road and Harmons Lick Road. This is located in the southwestern part of the county near Lincoln Co. Directions: Take #39 south out of Lancaster about 5 miles, crossing over into Lincoln Co. Turn left at the road across from Preachersville Rd. on the right. Go about 2 miles (which takes you back into Garrard Co.) Make 1st right, go about 1 1/2 mi (you'll pass #1647 on the left) & this brings you to a 3 way intersection although there may not be stop signs on each rd. Straight ahead @ this 3-way is where this old cemetery should be. On the map it does not have a name and it fits the description above of where it should be.
