    1. [KYGARRAR] Some Louisa Co., Virginia Deeds, etc.
    2. Please pass this along to rootsweb sites where you think some readers/subscribers may be interested. Janice L. Abercrombie, a well-known genealogist-author of Virginia has abstracted a good many Louisa Co. Virginia deeds, and perhaps wills (which I have not yet explored). They -- the abstracts -- can be found currently [let's hope this website is more or less permanent] on this URL _http://trevilians.com/_ (http://trevilians.com/) A good many of Louisa Co. residents settled in Kentucky--and probably in North Carolina, before they came to Kentucky. As one lecturer from Salt Lake City says, If you are studying Virginia, research ALL the counties. I have found that advice to be most helpful. Your ancestors, like mine, migrated here and there. 3. I don't know an exact location, but you'll note that there was no Paint Lick in a couple of the censuses. Instead, there was Brandy Springs. So, I have always assumed it was the Paint Lick area. Again, though, I have no idea how much area it took in. 1. [KYGARRAR] Some Scattered Notes About Holtzclaw
    2. Someone is asking about Holtzclaw, and I forget the exact question. The Holtzclaw family is a family allied with my Kemper family of several different Northern Neck counties, and later of Garrard Co. and Mercer Co., KY. Maybe this will help a Holtzclaw researcher. (Remember, he is not my ancestor, but perhaps one of his daughters may be, as there were several Holtzclaw-Kemper marriages in Kentucky. My research indicates there were a number of men named Jacob Holtzclaw, so be careful of the dates--and the places.) These notes have not been edited, but in most cases, I have tried to cite the sources. I suggest you check those sources and then compare with the originals. I find sometimes the abstractors have trouble reading the old handwriting and leave out a valuable piece of information--just the piece you need to make the proper linkage!!! Warning!!! E.W.Wallace A Kemper-Utterback descendant JACOB HOLTZCLAW / HOLSCLAW OF NORTHERN NECK VIRGINIA One of the 1714 German immigrants to Germanna, Virginia (First Colony of Germanna). The Kemper family of later Garrard Co., Ky were closely associated--indeed, intermarried--with members of the Holtzclaw family. Note the dates - may not be in date order. This information is from the Library of Virginia website--under Land Records: Holtzclaw, Jacob. Publication 9 July 1731. Other Format Available on microfilm. Northern Neck Grants, reels 288-311. 1. [KYGARRAR] The 1840 Census of Pensioners - Revolutionary War
    2. Dear Kentucky cousins, I finally got around to reading parts of the NGS [National Genealogical Society] Newsmagazine for Sept/Oct 2003. There is an article entitled #12--the 1840 Census of Pensioners by Bryon C. Bray, Albany, Oregon. (I must have missed the first 11 articles/lessons.) One of the illustrations lists a URL for 1840 pensioners living in Kentucky. The URL is LONG [if rootsweb wraps the URL in punctuation marks, such as underlines or parens, remove those marks before pasting in your search blank. Hang on: _http://www.usgennet.org/usa/topic/colonial/census/1840/1840ky_il.html_ (http://www.usgennet.org/usa/topic/colonial/census/1840/1840ky_il.html) There is an index [not every name but groups of names]. At the bottom of one of the screens, I noticed there was a link to the images of the census. Since I did not find the bloke I was looking for [I think he had died before 1840], I did not follow through on that. The table gives the age. I saw a Harris male in Madison Co., KY, but I did not recognize him as one of my group of Harrises. There was a Gentry male, whose family married into *my* Harris family. Good luck in all your searches. E.W.Wallace ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com
