John Simpson was my grandfather. His sons were McKinley,Allie Boone and my father Otto. I don't know his daughters names but at the time of his death in 1954 his death notice stated he had 4 surviving daughters. I was told that his wife's name was Lula Cobb but I never could find out anything on any of them. I have no info on any of them I have been looking for a long time for any relatives who could tell me anything about my father Otto and his family. The 4 daughters married names are: Ira Gilliam,Mrs.Orvin Gilliam,Mrs Clarence Short,Mrs Jess Balton. John Simpson also had a brother named Jones Simpson at the time of his death. I would appreciate any info you might have on any of them and it sounds like we might be related. Thank you Bessie
I am looking for the "exact" location of the BRUCE cemetery, which includes tombstones for: John Bruce Elizabeth Clay Bruce Members of the ARNOLD and DOTY families And others One source, a write-up in the Garrard County News, 31 Oct 1991, gives the location as: "On a hilltop on the G.B.Shell farm off Point Leavell Road" The cemetery book has: "On the Paul Ballard farm 0.75 mi South of Ky 52 near Point Leavell." I suppose the cemetery book is older, so the farm probably is now "Shell". However, when there last, we couldn't see, from the road south from Point Leavell (county #1972 ?). Can anyone give more directions? For example, is it on the east or west side of the road. Does anyone know the owner? I did find some "Shells" who live on Richmond Road, which I believe is Hwy 52, but the addresses are closer to Lancaster. There is a GB Shell, but no street number. Now, as to the PALMER cemetery, I'm not sure which Palmers were buried there, but the directions are: "Near Point Leavell 0.25 mi North of Ky 52 on Railroad Grade Road. First farm on the left after leaving the tunnel. Cemetery unfenced inside a cattle feed lot behind the barn." When last there, the by-pass was under construction. We did find the tunnel, we think, and worked our way to the north side of the by-pass in the same position. There is a farm there, and as you go up a hill, there is a barn with a cow pen on the downhill side. Does this sound familiar? And then, does anyone know of any other cemeteries that may be in that area. Specifically, I am looking for the grave of a NIXON PALMER and MARY PALMER. There may be two Mary Palmers, as Nixon married twice, both times to a Mary. Also looking for a NANCY PALMER. Same situation. Husband may have married twice, to two Nancys. We are going back to Garrard in September, so would like to find out as much as possible. Thanks for your help. Pat (in Tucson)

Is there anyone in Lancaster that would be able to track down a March 2003 obituary? The obit I'm looking for is for an Isiah J. Brogle who died March 11, 2003. I tried locating the newspaper online but could not find anything except the Lexington paper and it was not in it. Thanks. Bev.

Hi Dennis There was no Garrard County in 1779, it was made in 1796, and not too many people in Kentucky, which was part of Virginia at that time. One of the only "Charles Rice's that I know of in Ky is: Charles Rice (1763-1809), was in Capt. Downing's Co. against the Indians under George Rogers Clark. A sergeant in 1782. Buried in graveyard of "Old Round Top meeting house near Old Town or Milford near the Lancaster Road. No information as to marker." http://gesswhoto.com/olden-daze/index16.html "Revolutionary Soldiers Buried in Madison County, Kentucky" Madison Co is immediately east of Garrard. Are you sure of the death date? I have both Rices (allied family) and Crenshaw (direct ancestors) in the families I'm working on. So, this caught my eye. Should you find that I am wrong, and he is buried in Garrard, let me know before September, as I will be there.
