Morris Sullivan, my great grandmother's brother, came to the US in 1857 and settled in Frankfort, KY. On Oct. 20, 1868, he married Johannah Sheehan at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church. For many years he and his family lived in a duplex house on east Main St. My great grandparents, Daniel and Briget Sullivan Callahan, lived in the other duplex. Morris Sullivan died Feb.16, 1917 and is buried in Frankfort Cemetery. Johanna Sullivan died April 28, 1923 and is buried in the Frankfort Cemetery. Their names are not in the Frankfort Cemetery Book, so I presume they have no head stone. Would like an obit on Morris and/or Johannah, if possible. Failing that, I would like to know if there are any descendants of this couple still living. Any help in this area would be appreciated. Bill Brinly
Bill- Good Shepherd should have a record of the Sullivan family, including baptisms, marriages, and deaths. Although there is a new church, built in the 1990s, the old church is still in use for daily Masses and the church rectory is located next door, I believe. (I live in Chicago, but used to spend a *lot* of time in Frankfort in my youth, and still get back there a couple of times a year.) There is a separate "Catholic" section of the Frankfort Cemetery; perhaps the Church's records also cover who is buried in that section, also. Someone from Frankfort please help: Wasn't there a Sullivan's funeral home in Frankfort? I just spoke with my dad (age 90). He tells me that Mr. Pat Sullivan was the president of the Farmer's Bank, and loaned him some money when he needed to go to graduate school. Good luck. Hello Bill: I have recently learned that there are TWO Frankfort Cemetery books! The one I have is a hardbound BLUE covered book "Frankfort Cemetery . . . in Kentucky" copyright 1988 by the KY Genealogical Society. This book contains only TRANSCRIPTIONS OF GRAVE STONES in existence when the book was developed. The other book, which I do not have a copy of, is bound with a WHITE cover. This book, which I believe is published by the cemetery, contains a record of ALL BURIALS in the cemetery, even those without a grave marker. Give the cemetery a call -- when I last spoke with them (fall 2005), they were getting ready to publish an updated version of the WHITE book. The office at this cemetery is small and not always open, but when you can reach somebody in the office, they are very helpful. This is a beautiful old-fashioned cemetery, and the family that maintains the cemetery lives in a large old Victorian style home at the entrance to the cemetery. Although I have some Sullivan's in my line about 3 generations back (Lucy Jane Sullivan who married Lewis Walker Butler Noland, lived and died in Frankfort, KY), I don't think we are related, since I understand my Sullivan lines were Protestant. Good luck!
