In Search of William Hamilton NATION, his obituary states that he was born 20 Jun 1820 in Frankfort, but I have no real clue on who his parents are. He married Elizabeth DAVIS of Menard County, Illinois in 1848, again according to the obituary. I have not been able to find the marriage in Illinois nor the family in the 1850 Census. At this point I would like to find out anything I can on the NATION families in Franklin County, in the hopes of finding a clue on the origins of William Hamilton NATION. Regards, Lance
Lance, I don't know if this helps or not, but Forks of Elkhorn Church, by Ermina Jett Darnell, mentions Letitia Nation, daughter of Edward Sr., who married James Harvey Montgomery in Franklin County in 1824. She was his first wife. That is the only mention of the name Nation in the book. Suzanne -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Lance L. Good evening Lance. I have seen several Nation family members in the cemeteries of Shelby County and Spencer County. These two countys are located to the West of Fraklin County. Hey Lance, I don't have a complete documentation of the Nation family history, but I do know they centered around Spencer County, with spillover into Shelby and Anderson. I have cousins who married into this line. The oldest Nation in my own tree is a Joseph Nation, Sr. (Bet 1760-1770) who came from somewhere to Mercer County. The one child that starts this line ended up in Spencer County. His sone, Joseph, Jr. (abt 1797) did have at least 7 known children, one being named William. I have him listed as being born about 1839, so he could possibly be your William Hamilton, but I don't know enough about what happened to him to even know. I have no idea who he married. I have not studied this line a great deal, except those more recent families in the Spencer area pertaining to my own tree. I don't know if Joseph Jr. ever lived or traveled around the local counties, but it is a real possibility. My guess, however, is that any Nation in this area all came from the same Nation line that came into Kentucky. Perhaps, this would be a good place for you to start looking. Check more into the Josephs to see what more you can learn about them. There was also a Hezekia NATION that married about the same time as Hamilton NATION. So, the H. NATION maybe Hezekia, no way of telling, thanks to the laziness of the census taker. But I bet they are related. Hezekia is also listed in Franklin Co censuses.
