    1. death date
    2. I am researching the Salender/Fuhs family of Franklin CO., KY, and am needing info on the descendants of George Salender and Louise Fuhs Salender who lived in Frankfort from 1870-1920. In 1920 Louise and her son Stephen were living in the household of a daughter, Rose Howser. After 1920, Rose is still in Franklin CO., Stephen married and lives in Louisville, and I cannot find Louise. I have checked the online KY death records and no luck. Does anyone have access to Franklin CO obits and can check on her death date? I don't think she remarried as she was a 70 yr old widowed lady in 1920. Thanks. Helen Zuber Keusch forever searching the EAKINS, FORD/FOARD, MELTON, WALCUP, SANDEFUR, EZELL, HANDLEY, THOMASSON, BIGGERSTAFF, ZUBER, GUTEKUNST/GOODART, ANTHIS, BANGERT, LAND, CRABTREE, BENNETT, EDWARDS, REEVES, WOFFORD families--my lines; and on hubby's side the families of MEHRINGER, SCHITTER/SCHUETTER, HOCHGESANG, SCHMITT, HURST, BECHER, KEUSCH, ZIMMERMAN, ACKERMAN, BURGER, and HOPF (and some side-lines).

    3. Thank you for the reply and the information. Do you have any leads on the Father of William Hayden Shelton? I'd surely love to solve that problem. We do indeed have the same family.............I can add many facts to your list............I'm 1200 miles from home right now, but do have some in my memory,,,,,,,,then more later. William Hayden Shelton died June 12, 1921, and is buried at Moffett Cemetery, Milton KY. ***I have his wife as Ann Mary Jacobs**** but have been unable to locate a marriage license or record of them. Tho' I do know the Hunt family is in the mix. William Hayden was living in the Samuel Hunt household for the 1850 census. Mrs Hunt's maiden name was Shelton. The Jacobs name comes from verbal conversation with a granddaughter of Wm. Hayden. Alva and Ethia Shelton were twins.........but my memory does not have the birthdates. Generation 2 Elza Thomas Shelton m.Sarah Frances Lusby, dau. of Younger Pitts Lusby and Mary Catherine Quisenberry. Younger died in 1872 in a lumbering accident. Elza and Sarah Frances were 16 and 17 yrs old when they married.................there are many glowing newspaper articles about their anniversaries and birthdays. A model couple. I met Elza Thomas when I first married into the Raker family. Oldest daughter of Elza and Sarah was Nannie Belle, b. in Owen Co. She married Robert Bledsoe Knox, and they settled in the Madison, IN area.....in the 1920's. Their daughter Mabel Katherine m. John Raker, and it's their son who is my husband. vii. Hayden Shelton, b. 1896 was killed at the end of WWI, and is buried at Arlington Nat'l Cem. From which of William Hayden's children do you descend? I'm happy to share any of my information.............my files, as I said are a long way from me...........I'll be back there on 25 May. Phyllis

    3. Attention: Beta Wolf, in Alaska Judy Bisig I also am researching in Franklin and Owen Co..............have spent hours in Owen county. I am researching the KNOX and SHELTON families....... Austin KNOX and wife Susan Ann ELLISTON Castleman, married 1834 Gallatin Co., are buried at the Bethel Baptist Cemetery, on 227 about 2 miles west of Wheatley, in Owen County. I can not prove the father of Austin.......tho' I know he is part of the Robert KNOX / Elizabeth Gill family. Robert was born in Balleymoney, Ireland in 1758 , came with family James Knox/ Lady Elizabeth Craig into Chester Co. SC in 1867. First son of Robert / Elizabeth was James , born 1785, in SC. James and Robert moved to Franklin Co. James married Mary McCreary. I believe the father of Austin to be either James, born 1785, or Robert, born 1758 Austin was on the estate settlement of Robert's second wife, Mille Bohannon, in 1860. Shelton family info I have: Wm. Hayden Shelton b. 1839, in Owen County. On his Death Certificate, his father is said to be Frederick. There was a Frederick on the 1840 census, Owen County, with a female(wife) and two young males, one of which would be Wm. Hayden, and the other is the next age range, so about 5 years older. Does any of the above info mean anything to you..............Have you met any of the Knox or Shelton people?? I'm also working on the Thomas and Quisenberry families in Owen Co. Phyllis Counts Raker

    2. Personally I prefer the Ky History Center (Ky Historical Society) for death certificates. But the Ky Dept of Library & Archives is great for researching wills, deeds, and other documents. I was at the Ky Dept of Library & Archives the other day and they brought out the actual documents for me to study. That was too cool! They didn't stand over me either even though these were over 100 years old. Lynda

    3. I live in Nebraska, but go to Kentucky to do research and visit family, so I can relate. The two best places in the state are in Frankfort, the Kentucky Historical Society in downtown Frankfort and the Kentucky Library and Archives, just outside of town on Coffee Tree Road. They are both excellent sources for research and you should visit both if time permits. Kentucky keeps all its county records in the Archives, so you can find what you need without going to the individual counties. The Archives houses public records, marriages, court cases, census, etc. The Historical Society has family genealogies and lots of other research information. My ancestors are from Owen and Franklin Counties and while I have done a lot of research in Owen County, most of what I found is in the Kentucky Library and Archives. Going to the individual counties is great for cemeteries, but the rest you can find in Frankfort. 3. If you only have one research day, I would recommend the Kentucky Historical Society. We have researched in many states, and KHS is one of the best places we have found. They have information on the entire state. The staff is friendly and helpful without standing over your shoulder. You can take a laptop or binder in, but no purses, briefcases, etc. They have lockers conveniently located. You have to put a quarter in, but it comes out when you unlock it. Check out their website for hours, etc.: http://history.ky.gov/ Sandy in California ----- Original Message ----- From: "Beta Wolf" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, May 14, 2006 7:35 PM Subject: [KYFRANKL] researching in central KY :I would also like to know where the best place to do research in the Frankfort area. 2. Well, the Ky Dept of Library & Archives charges 50 cents and has terrible photo copy machines. And the Ky History Center charges 30 cents. I think 10 cents is VERY reasonable. I justt wanted to prepare others for the drastic change in the Wm T. Young Library. (From easy machines to difficult ones and from Free copies to paying copies) And they charge for parking too! My friend was charged 4 bucks and left empty handed from the lack of experienced employees.

    2. Hi Everyone, I am writing this to prepare others of what they might be up against in the future. A friend of mine went to the microfilm room at the William T. Young Library over at the University of Kentucky today. She wanted to copy some old newspaper articles. This evening she emailed to inform me that they now have new readers, new printers, and they charge ten cents a copy. (this used to be free of charge) Now you need to buy a vend card for a dollar to use on all the copies. The ten cents wasn't a problem.....but the only vend card machine on that floor was out of order. The students that were working today were not experienced enough with all the new equipment to help her learn how to operate them. Sad to say.....my friend traveled a pretty good piece for this trip and returned home empty handed and frazzled.
