Thanks Linda, It appears the item offered was a mistake....or at least the pricing was a bit high. There was something about the auction that wasn't right. I believe this to be the same "History of Franklin County, Ky" that has been sold on Ebay prior in a disc version costing much less. It can still be found as I just saw a listing not too long ago. I purchased a copy for myself about a year ago. These CDs being sold are actually just copies from the book that you can view on your computer. My version says it was originally published in 1912 by the Roberts Co. Printers, Frankfort, KY. I didn't bother checking, but I have a feeling this version is also my this Johnson fella, or whoever that person was. I am looking for information on ancestors of mine who lived in Frankfort and may have intermarried with the Buford family. My ancestors John Crumbaugh, born about 1803 in KY and Charlotte Crumbaugh, born about 1815 in KY appear in Frankfort in the 1860, 1870 and 1880 censuses. John was a shoemaker and was buried at Frankfort Cemetery 5 March 1892. Charlotte was buried at the same cemetery on 16 January 1894 - both were buried at lot 295. One of their sons was Henry Crumbaugh, born in KY about 1850. He appears in the household of John and Charlotte in 1860 and 1870 but not in 1880. The Franklin County GenWeb has the following marriage listed: October 6, 1874 - Henry CRUMBAUGH - resident of Franklin County, KY - 24 - first marriage - Carpenter - born Fayette Count, KY - father, born Fayette County, KY - mother, born Franklin County, KY to Alice BUFORD - resident of Shelby County, KY - 20 -first marriage - born Shelby County, KY - father, born Boyle County, KY - mother, born Boyle County, KY - Married, Jeffersonville, Indiana. I suspect the Henry in this record is the Henry, son of John and Charlotte. This couple (Henry and Alice) appears in the 1900 and 1910 censuses (1900 in Crutchers Schoolhouse, Distr 71) and 1910 in Ward 1, Frankfort. This Henry was a carpenter. Any information provided on these people would be appreciated. Thanks Paul
This is my worst brick wall. I have not found any George or GW Thompson who matches this person. The best information I have is the census data at the bottom and that he married Lucy Wilson of Owen County, KY sometime before 1855. A newspaper article, just before Lucy's death by consumption in Scott County, said that she was from Missouri. The youngest three children, who also apparently died of consumption (TB), are buried at the North Fork Baptist Church in Switzer, Franklin County. The Sarah Elizabeth Parker name sounds familiar, but it sounds as if your Parkers are not the ones related to our Peaks Mill line. However, if you run into a connection with Peaks Mill, please contact me as I have compiled a 750-page cemetery book containing pictures, obits, death records, headstone photos and more and in the book there are 31 references to surname Parker. If you are ever in Frankfort, it can be viewed at the Kentucky History Center, Capital City Museum and/or purchased directly from me. Thanks. Unfortunately, my Parker line is currently at a dead end. The farthest back that I have been able to go is to Charles H. Parker and his first wife Maria Roach. I am directly descended from this couple -- their daughter Sarah Elizabeth Parker married George Jesse Kaze; both Sarah and George are buried in the Frankfort Cemetery. The daughter of Sarah and George was my grand mother Lula Nelson Kaze Noland (husband James Murray Noland) also buried in the Frankfort Cemetery. I have the title to the two graves immediately next to Lula's grave; my husband and I plan to be buried there. Now, with respect to Charles H. Parker -- he was, according to his Civil War pension application, born in 1844 in Gravel Switch, KY (over in Marion Co). After the war (where he served with General John Hunt Morgan, aka Morgan's Raiders, Confederate Army), he came to Mercer Co, KY, where he lived out the rest of his life. He is buried in the Ebenezer Church cemetery in Salvisa, KY alongside his second wife Georgiana Spaulding. He had 4 children with his first wife Maria Roach, and about a dozen with his second wife Georgiana. Courtesy of the wonderful Mercer Co, KY historical society in Harrodsburg, I can trace Maria's family back several generations further from Virginia (although her father is unknown and will remain that way -- he was unidentified even at the time of her birth; her mother Belinda Roach Jr. was "not quite right in the head" for reasons unknown; oral tradition in the family is that she fell off a cliff and hit her head while young; but Belinda's parents! Belinda Sr (Roach) Roach and William Roach were first cousins, so who knows . . .). Anyway, many of the descendants of Charles Parker from both of his wives have features and coloring compatible with Cherokee blood, abundant straight black hair and dark complexion. Family oral tradition has it that there was Cherokee blood in the family, but it is unclear from which line. Photographs of Charles Parker's granddaughter Lula Nelson Kaze Noland indicate these features; unfortunately Lula died when my mother was less than a year old, so my mother did not have the benefit of her mother's stories. But I have not found any documentation on Charles H. Parker other than his Civil War pension application. Supposedly, at the time he entered the Civil War at age 16 or 17, his mother was widowed and he had a brother. Good morning Linda: Sorry for the long delay, but I've been having fun with the living. Also, there are a number of entries for persons surnamed "Games" in my book. The following are from my blue-bound book "Frankfort Cemetery . . . in Kentucky" copyright 1988 by the Kentucky Genealogical Society, Inc. - "a compilation of names and dates on all gravemarkers in the Frankfort Cemetery." So, unmarked graves or those where the gravemarker was destroyed or unreadable are NOT included in this book. This cemetery was established in the mid 1840's, but includes a few burials which were moved here from other places. If any of the following persons are in your line, it might be worth a call to the cemetery to ask about other burials that may be unmarked, etc. -- they have a complete listing. Also, you may want to check the Lexington Cemetery's web-site. They have a free on-line search feature.
