    1. [KYFRANKL] Genealogy Volunteer Site
    2. Genealogy LookUp Forum is a web site of volunteers who will do various types of genealogical look ups such as births, census, cemetery, deaths and marriage. We are also looking for new volunteers that have access to records that may help others as well. We do have our own genealogy chat room that is moderated by Hosts who are very helpful on giving others genealogical advice. They will do look ups from several paid online resources for those who do not have access to them. We have a weekly chat called GENTREK with HOSTS that give a genealogical presentation class to the members each week. The topics are different every week. These are mini genealogy classes to help us to become better researchers. Two times a week we hold genealogy trivia games which are very educational and loads of fun. Please visit our site to locate a volunteer in your area or join our genealogy chat for some great help. I am sure you will not be disappointed. _http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~genealogylookup/index.html_ (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~genealogylookup/index.html)

    1. [KYFRANKL] Archibald Waller Overton
    2. Sarah
    3. There is a very brave man buried in Franklin County, a veteran of the Battle of New Market, Virginia, May 15, 1864. The VMI Corps of Cadets fought as a unit, and 257 cadets were on the field. Ten cadets were killed in battle or died later from the effects of their wounds; 45 were wounded. The youngest participating cadet was fifteen; the oldest twenty-five. Could someone please find and photograph the tombstone of: Archibald Waller Overton, VMI class of 1866, Frankfort State Cemetery This is ALL I know about him. If you could find some biographical information that would be wonderful! A group of Virginia Military Institute alumni are attempting to locate the graves of all of the cadets who fought in the Battle of New Market in the Civil War. They contacted me about my ancestor who was a cadet then, and I volunteered to help them get the other graves photographed, knowing we have so many wonderful people on Rootsweb. ;-) You can visit their web page at http://www.augustagavmiaa.info/new_market_database.htm Read about the battle at http://www.vmi.edu/archives/Civil_War/cwnm.html. I've identified all the counties on the list of about 150 men they haven't photographed, and am contacting each county on Rootsweb. Then after I hear from everyone, I'm going back to research whom I can. One of those tip of the iceberg projects you accidentally wander into. I've been to the battleground, and no one else was there that day. It was quite moving to walk where they fought, and when this came up I felt like I had to help. I'll be unsubscribing as soon as this is posted, so if you can help please contact me at [email protected] . Remember, this is ALL I know about him. Thanks, Sarah Reveley San Antonio, Texas

    1. [KYFRANKL] Cunningham & Hickman 1799 Franklin County, KY
    2. Suzanne Russell
    3. I have just rejoined this list in my continuing search for John Cunningham who married Sally Hickman in Franklin County, KY in 1799. I would like to find John's ancestry. Here is what I know: Sally Hickman was a daughter of the famed Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church minister, William Hickman, and his wife, Eliza Shackelford. John and Sally had two sons that I know of, Fountain Cunningham and William H (probably Hickman) Cunningham. John died about 1823/24. B. Hickman was named guardian of William H Cunningham in 1824. This was probably Benjamin Hickman, son of William. Fountain married Sarah L Taylor, daughter of Brooking and Ann Taylor, in Franklin County in 1824. These two migrated to Henderson County, KY about this same time. Sarah died in 1833, probably in childbirth with her seventh child, Edward. Fountain remarried. His second wife was Sarah E Faulkner, daughter of Johnson and Mary Faulkner. William H Cunningham joined his brother, Fountain, in Henderson County where he married Mary Jane Moss in 1832. The following is an excerpt from Forks of Elkhorn Church, by Ermina Jett Darnell, published in 1946: Cunningham-Sally, to Frankfort 1816 John Cunningham m Sally Hickman, F 1799. In 1800 he bought from Elisha Lindsay the farm at Jett which until recently was owned by the Cromwells. He sold this land to Edmund Vaughan in 1802, and went to Frankfort, where in 1810 he had a family of five. James Cunningham m Jane Gibson, F 1799; John Cunningham m Elizabeth Gibson(1804); Betsy Cunningham m Peter Brown; Fountain Cunningham m Sally Taylor, F 1824. Rev. R. M. Cunningham, was the father of Arianna Hickman. The will of Hugh Cunningham, W 1820, mentions his wife Elizabeth, and sons James, Thomas, and John. Elizabeth Cunningham m Moses Boone. I am almost positive that the John Cunningham mentioned as son of Hugh, is NOT my John. I am not sure who the other Cunningham mentioned are. Again, I am seeking the ancestry of John Cunningham who married Sally Hickman in Franklin County, KY in 1799. I have lots of information on their sons, and on Sally's ancestry. Thanks for any information or suggestions anyone can offer. 1. Re: [KYFRANKL] Manley book
    2. Roberta, A quick check shows there is a John Thompson in the book. I didn't write it. The book is written by Charles Manley, see his email in carbon copy slot. It covers James Manley and (unknown) wife and sons James, Jr., Isaac, William and Samuel. The family covers, Mason, Bath, Franklin, Scott, Boyd, Fayette, Montgomery, Rowan counties plus others. It really is very well done and well worth the money if you consider all the death certificates. Barb Barbara (MANLEY) Hernden ge-ne-al-o-gist: n. 1. a person who spends more time searching for dead relatives than spending time with living relatives. 2. a person who can not remember his own wedding anniversary but knows his great-great-grandmother's birthdate. 3. a person who spends a lot of time talking with others about long-time deceased people. 4. a person with no other hobbies. There is information on almost 5,000 individuals, over 40 bios, almost 325 photos and over 75 death certificates ... AND the price is very reasonable for this great publication. There is also info on families that married into the Manley family. A must for genealogists! 1. [KYFRANKL] New Lister - CUNNINGHAM Help please
    2. Barbara Cunningham
    3. Hi List My name is Barbara Cunningham and i live in Sydney Australia. I have been doing research on my husbands family tree for several years, for quite awhile i have been aware of an American connection, but, so far have not been able to pin it down. My husbands GGrandfather was Eugene CUNNINGHAM, he married several times, two of them here is Australia. Eugene was born in Ireland in about 1826 - he was extremely inconsistant with his year of birth in all the documentation we have found. Eugene was in the RIC before he came to Australia. He was definitely here by 1861 as he became a constable in the NSW Police. The first Australian marriage was to Bridget O'Halloran in 1863 (he brought her out from Ireland and she was listed as being his cousin - I'm not sure if she really was or not.) Eugene and Bridget had 7 children before her death in 1878. His second marriage was to Mary Edgeworth (she was either born in Ireland and emigrated to the US when young or she was born in America, there is a little bit of confusion regarding this) We do know she definitely lived in America as she attended Vassar, although she didn't graduate. Eugene and Mary had 3 sons. At sometime after the Eugene and Mary married and i presume prior to his death in 1905 it is believed that at least 2 and possibly 3 of his daughters from his marriage to Bridget went to live in America with Mary's family. My father - in - law Tony CUNNINGHAM met up with a couple of the cousins, but, unfortunately he can't remember the names, it is believed that the descendants of the girls were members of the Sheriff's Department of Frankfort Kentucky. One of them was also said to have married a mayor of New York. I know family stories are often wrong and misleading, but, i am certain of a link to America, probably Kentucky, very unsure on the Mayor of New York though I am hoping that someone on this list has a connection to the girls so that i can round off this section of our family. The girls were Ellen born 3rd July 1864 Fanny B(possibly Bridget) born in 1868 & Mary Jane born 23rd April 1877 If anyone has a link to these girls or a suggestion on where i should start to look, I would truly appreciate it. Thanks heaps Barb

    1. [KYFRANKL] Lawrence Hunter's burial site?
    2. Linda Gudgel Finnell
    3. I am trying to find the burial site and actual date of death of a little boy who died in Franklin Co., KY. Lawrence Hunter (b. 1906) Hamilton Co., OH (Cincinnati area) son of Daniel T. Hunter and Ella Martin Hunter. Lawrence's father, Daniel, worked for the railroad and died February 25, 1910. His mother brought her two children, Lawrence and Etta Irene, back to Frankfort to live with her mother and step father, John Andrews and Lucy Martin Andrews on Mero Street. This family appears in the 1910 Franklin County Census which was taken April 24, 1910. Family lore says that Lawrence died of pneumonia at about the age of 4 or 5. So I know that he died after 2/25/1910 (date of the 1910 census) but before the 1920 Census. Can anyone look at cemetery records anywhere in Franklin Co. and tell me if they find a Lawrence Hunter buried there? Appreciate your help. Linda

    3. Hello Lisa: I referred to my white soft-cover book "Index of the Frankfort Cemetery" published December 2005. There are no listings for persons surnamed Hill who died in the 1860 - 1872 time period. Surprisingly, there are very few Hill listings at all. I know there were several Hill families in Madison Co, KY. Perhaps you could check there? Good luck! 3. Hello Beta: According to my book "Index of the Frankfort Cemetery" published December 2005, which is a white soft-cover book published by the cemetery and listing all burials (including those in unmarked graves): There is a Susan Harrod is buried in Section O, lot/row 20, grave 50. She was interred on 01 February 1927. I believe this may be your Susan Margaret (Rearden) Harrod. My book does not contain information on her birth date, death date, age at death or marital status (such information is provided for many burials, just not that particular one). There are several persons named John Harrod buried in this cemetery, but none that appear to be "yours." Here is their information: John Harrod, Section E, lot 47-S, grave 3, interred 06 Oct 1935, unmarked grave. John Harrod, lot 1978, single grave, interred 28 Oct 1929, unmarked grave. John Crutcher Harrod, Section T, lot 1C, grave 4, interred 30 Dec 1994, born 24 July 1899, died 28 Dec 1994, age 95, male, married, gravemarker; buried next to his wife Margaret M. Harrod (06 Nov 1904 - 01 Mar 1984) John Leslie Harrod, Section U, row 21, grave 8, interred 26 April 1956, born 06 Sept 1885, died 24 April 1956, age 71, male, unmarried, gravemarker. John Lillard Harrod, section AA, lot 12 B1, grave 1, interred 14 Jan 1984, born 26 Sept 1902, died 12 Jan 1984, 81 year old male, married, gravemarker; buried alongside his wife Evelyn Harrod. John Robert Harrod, section S, lot 26 D, grave 2, interred 30 June 1965, born 25 Jan 1885, died 27 June 1965, 80 year old male, married, gravemarker; buried alongside his wife Leonia Quire Harrod. John S. Harrod, section C, lot 32, interred 24 Nov 1913, unmarked grave. As I scanned the book, I noted other Harrods buried in Section O, near Susan Harrod -- since they are probably related, here is their information: Catherine Louise Harrod, section O, row 20, grave 49, interred 26 Dec 1924, born 12 Dec 1924, died 25 Dec 1924, grave marker. Grace E. Harrod, section O, row 20, grave 48, interred 14 Dec 1924, born 19 Nov 1893, died 31 Dec 1924, age 31 years. (NOTE: the interment date in my book is obviously wrong, since she could not have been buried before she died. Perhaps you could contact the cemetery to determine the correct date of interment; according to my blue-bound book that lists only burials with gravemarkers, the death date indicated on the gravemarker is 31 Dec 1924). Contact information for the cemetery is: Frankfort Cemetery 215 East Main Street Frankfort, KY 40601 Telephone: (502) 227-2403 Good luck!
