    1. Re: [KYFLOYD] Miller family Floyd County
    2. Hmm--I thought maybe this was him 1850 Census for Henderson County North Carolina: John Miller 65 Farmer Harriet 50 Andrew J. 20 Farmer W. D. 18 (Male) Farmer All household members were born in NC. However, this is not my line and I was just answering a query in the Floyd County mailing list. I am sure the original inquirer will be thrilled with all you have to offer so I have forwarded it on to him. I looked up what I could find on census because I know how frustrating it is not to have the census available. Again, thank you! In a message dated 1/5/2009 4:07:02 P.M. Mountain Standard Time, [email protected] writes: Andrew Jackson Miller was born about 1838 in either Washington County, Va or Ashe County, NC. The first definite census record he appears on is 1860 in Fleming County, Ky where he joined the Confederacy before relocating to Floyd County where he married Mary Margaret Spradlin daughter of Nehemiah Spradlin, born in Va, and possibly Anna Evans) after the war in 1869 at the home of Nehemiah Spradlin in Floyd County. Andy Jack's parentage is inconclusive and part of much speculation and family history. In the early 1850's a Cherokee woman called Elizabeth Miller McVeigh is listed in Floyd County on tax records and the owned land in an area now called Big Branch of Abbott Creek. Andy Jack has been thought to be her son and many of those descendants claim he was fathered by a man named Solomon Sheets in Ashe County, NC. Abraham Miller, born 1831 is also thought to be a son of the same Sheets man. However, to date, there is not conclusive proof as to the parentage of these two men. George Washington Miller was born about 1837 and it is this line I desend from. This George married Mary Salmons and they too were in Fleming County in 1860, however they had two children by then and this George joined the Confederacy in Magoffin County, next to Floyd County. The children I show for Andrew Jackson Miller and Mary Margaret Spradlin: 1. Nehemiah Miller (named for the mother's father) was born 1867 and married Mary Lou "Mollie" Waddle 2. Elizabeth "Lizzie" Miller born 1872 and married a Andrew Jackson Miller who was the son of William Lee Miller and grandson to the Abraham Miller (noted above) and Catherine Hale. 3. Abraham Miller born 1874 married Julia Campbell. 4. George Washington Miller born 1877 married Georgia Ann Frazier and their children: Edward Miller married Goldie Irene Shelton Bill Miller Alta Miller married unidentified Waddle George Washington Miller born 1923. 5. Hester Ann Miller born 1881 married Sherrd Waddle 6. Eeris Miller born 1886 and married Mary Bays. I have written an in depth article that will be published in the Magoffin County Historical Journal soon that outlines my own lineage from the above referenced Elizabeth Miller McVeigh and Joseph McVeigh as told my my own grandfather, George Washington Miller born 1882. If you are interested I can forward you this article. I hope this has helped in some way with what you want to know. I have attempted to keep this as simple as possible in light of the same names being used repeatedly in each family line and the resulting confusion. Please reply with any areas that are confusing and/or if you wish more family history that I might have.
