    3. All, Upon receiving numerous questions as to the similarity or difference between Charles Wells "Annals of Floyd County 1800-1826" and this new book "Circuit Court Records 1808-1824 Floyd Co, KY", I will answer the question: They are completely and totally different. They do cover the same time frame for Floyd County but Mr. Wells copied the records of the "County Court" which is different from the records of the "Circuit Court". The circuit court was the court of appeals for the county court but this was only a minor duty of the court. The Circuit Court was a court for the harsher offenses such as murder, felony, assault, trespass, land disputes, army desertions, insanity cases, etc. It also heard divorce cases and signed off on most of the Revolutionary War pension applications. And many minor offenses such as profane swearing, failure to appear, failure to post bond, selling liquors without license, etc. And many other things. Mr. Wells, who had an excellent book (which I bought when I was a teenager) was an inspiration to me to begin my "County Court" series (10 volumes for Floyd County 1821-1901, 3 for Pike, 1 for Perry, 1 for Lawrence and 1 for Morgan) and eventually this "Circuit Court" book. His book is available in the Denver Public Library here in Colorado where I live and I am sure it is available in libraries in Kentucky. Charles Wells stopped at a certain time frame in his book James Alan Williams, continued with court records, where Mr.Wells left off, and some of these court records were discovered in archives at the courthouse and no one had ever seen them before, including Mr.Wells. Wells published a book entitled "Annals of Floyd County,  Kentucky 1800-1824".  This book was published in 1983 and has been a great  resource for many researchers over the years.  The contents are:  Deed  Book A & B, County Court Books, 1, 2, 3, & 4 and the Marriage Bonds for  1808-1826. My understanding is that the book is no longer available for sale. Copies  are in most of the Kentucky Historical Libraries as well as Floyd, Johnson and  many of the eastern Kentucky counties.
